With all the attention on the USD/AUD exchange rate and its recent fluctuations, I got to thinking about the possibility of buying less-common currencies in Australia to lock in exchange rates which are more favourable. I mean those outside of the typical USD, GBP, EUR, etc that you see at most currency exchange places.
Does anyone know of anywhere in Sydney for example that would sell Polish Zloty (PLN)? At the moment the exchange rate is pretty decent (currently ~3 PLN/AUD vs 2.30 PLN/AUD when I last visited, and it's been below 2 PLN/AUD in the past), and I'm likely to go there next year, by which time I wouldn't be surprised if it's closer to the 2.30 PLN/AUD mark.
I suspect that even if there was somewhere that sold PLN here the exchange rate they offered and fees etc would make the whole exercise pointless (and with that I may well have answered my own question).
All that said, has anyone seen places in Australia selling less common currencies or had experience in buying them?
