Apologies if this is covered somewhere else,i could not find a thread.
VA 322 BNE>MEL Dep=0955 Arv=13.05 Economy Class.25/12/2019
Myself and travelling companion requested to Purchase extra items from the on board food menu,as like most people the snack is never enough, only to be informed# no perishables for before 10.30 am.#This was while they were serving the snack and drinks.I would have though as VB is not in the most healthy financial they would be after any extra revenue they could get.
Can anyone enlighten me as to why this occurred or is this standard procedure?
Thanks
Terry W.

It’s pretty standard and for what is classified as morning departures. Even on PER <> SYD, MEL, BNE A330 flights the early morning flights won’t have cheese and crackers loaded.
Some items can only be loaded for a limited amount of sectors and after that the items are discarded or hopefully donated to OzHarvest and this is the reason why.
I don’t think VA base such a revenue basis around the on board menu as it is a little conflicting with being more full-service.

As an aside for Buy on Board, if VA wanted to be a little innovative, now that they've brought Velocity back in house again, one idea could be for Velocity points earn on buy on board items.

Swipe the card (as per BP petrol currently) or the crew enter the Velocity number during the transaction if the terminal can be programmed appropriately.

Just a thought.
