Hi everyone,

Ive just taken advantage of the business class sale! Flying to new York return in July.

We flown last year to new York and got points upgrades both ways, after our experience on the A380 it was hard to imagine going back to economy. So very happy with the sale.

My questions are:
1) on the ticket conditions it did say they were eligible for upgrade. When I click upgrade on the manage my booking page, I get a message saying its not possible with a bunch of possible reasons (group book king, not eligible fare, etc etc) anyone else seen this? I know it's an optimistic pipe dream but I have on my bucket list to fly first class one of these days and while I know it's a long shot, wanted to at least request it.

2)we change planes at lax and get on the qf107(or 108 can't remember) looked at our seat options, we are in row 6,there are some seats in the upper deck - should I choose those? Which is better?

Thanks for help - so looking forward to this trip:-)

You might need to call them up as first will only be available on your leg to lax and not the connecting flight to JFK. I had this with my jasa of per-mel-syd-hkg as only the syd-hkg leg had first.

Why does the discounted price of the ticket matter. According to the terms and conditions there are no restrictions on upgrading tickets from business to first. I would be interested to understand Qantas's reasoning foe not allowing this request

I'd imagine a system glitch perhaps.

I have a feeling there are comments on here suggesting a phone call to QF will work.

I'm going in August too. I tried also and it said NO...how many points to upgrade from Business to First SYD to LAX ??

Thanks

suggest you call qantas. i had that error message too for some reason but could request an upgrade via the phone.

I just did the upgrade from J to F and it was 45,000pts and pts and SCs had posted by the time I had landed!

Each individual leg will be on the upgrade screen, some will say availbale, others will say not available for upgrade.
On the legs that say it is upgradeable, sometimes it wont let you upgrade on the website until the ticket has actually been ticketed.
You can ring Qantas as everyone suggested and get it ticketed so can apply for upgrade, or just wait until it works.

Hope helps

If you've just made the booking it may be that it hasn't been ticketed yet.
Or that's it's booked in to a normally non-upgradable fare class.
In any event, as others have said, a call should sort it out.

Yep it's a "feature" of the QF upgrade system, discounted J class tickets can't be upgraded online.

Or to be more precise, I class fares cannot have an upgrade request submitted online.

It a well documented issue and a quick call to Qantas FF should sort it out.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

thanks everyone, Mrs Sumthinfortnuthin hopefully will be very impressed when/if she finds out. just hope it does not set a precedent I can't afford in the future !!

I managed to do it over the phone yesterday with no problems, no talk of charging extra points. The CSO was extremely helpful and explained that the glitch is in fact due to the fact that QF107 flies all the way to NY, but that first class only offered to LAX. Anyway, I'm flying out this Thursday but being a lowly Silver won't find out at least until 2 days before and maybe even later whether I will get the upgrade

If I do get the upgrade, does have anyone have an opinion on which seats to select when there are two of us flying. On the 747, E & F are together but someone told me that I would be better going for A & E or F & K as you can talk to each other across the aisle. Also, being a 10am flight, what time is acceptable to be turning up to the F Lounge. This would be my first visit there and though I know that early morning is not that exciting, I'd still like to check out what it offers
