When looking at booking a J flight CBR-SYD-CBR today I noticed that J was now avalible for ATR services. This is this the same for Award bookings. Could we see J seats in the new -600's with the Armonia Cabin for CBR-SYD vv

I wouldn’t want to be paying the same price for J in the standard seats… but I thought the 600’s were a long way off?

Must be an error.

Though you’d get the refund from the lack of J but have the double SC currently, so could be useful for status re-qual.

All that said, from the ATR website, the First class seats they offer do look nice, assuming Virgin takes the option of a forward door!

DJ mentioned in the last week that the ATR schedule has been accelerated, the possibility of the 600s including J is quite real, as I have stated elsewhere, its likely they can take advantage of the cancelled Kingfisher order for 38 600s.

This Would Most Likely Be The Seat Map, Also They Are Being Sold From Mid July Onwards, Most Likley When They Arrive.

No Front Door?

I personally don't see Virgin having J on ATR services, but there's a good chance I could be wrong!

I took the seat map to imply what seats they’d have, the door might be there for Virgin australia, despite not being there in the seat map included.

I would have business down the back?

If there’s a front door it makes more sense to have J at the front, though with the toilet at the back, it’s hard to decide. If you want priority access to the toilet you also have everyone in the wrong cabin too. Then again it is meant for shorter flights.

Interesting coincidence for me, that this thread has come the day after my first ATR flight.......a flight that didn't impress me one iota. I added my comments about that flight in the initial ATR trip report thread here for anyone who wishes to read it.

If DJ are serious about increasing the number of ATRs, especially on the suit routes, the availability of J (in my estimation) would be essential. In fact, I'll be doing everything I can to AVOID having to endure an ATR again, but if it wasn't avoidable, J would be a very real option (and this is coming from me, a guy who usually won't fork out the extra cash for J).

Personally, I think forgoing the E-jets for the ATRs was/is a huge mistake, but then again, I do understand that the ROI must be considered.

The big limiting factor with J on an ATR is there's no galley on an ATR. So is J just defined then as a better seat? Maybe a slightly nicer snack? I'm pretty certain cart space is extremely limited in there too.

I think its unfair to rate an ATR next to an E-Jet which in my estimation is far superior to even a 737 in terms of comfort. You can only really rate them against other props.

Its pretty hard to make an authoritative comment given we have yet to see the 600s here, which are capable of an A&D type galley config which would serve the needs of the J config quite nicely, the current 500s certainly are limited in that area but will only be 4 in total now, the rest to be 600s, with I believe up to 38 now being considered!

I am expecting the 600s to be Armonia cabin equipped and have IFE.

I don't think it's unfair at all, because E-jets and 737s are what we did have with DJ and now don't (on some sectors)! It does bother me to hear reports of a heap of ATRs on order. In fact, it horrifies me!

Don't worry there are also heaps of brand new 737-800BSI and A330-200s coming! The ATRs are for regional hops, competing against other turbo prop aircraft I.e. Qlink

That may be true, but it's been proven that almost no-one will pay the premium required to sustain an E170 service rather than an ATR/turboprop. You can't say that DJ didn't try - the E170s were here for nearly three years, I think. And I doubt a new non-common fleet type was added just for fun.

A fleet of 68 ATRs implies some very impressive frequencies compared to their 737 services, that's for sure.

I remember seeing the slide in the VA annual presentation about comparisons of the E170 to the ATR..... On economics... the E170's don't even come close to the ATR.

On the shorter sectors they kill anything, which is why the Dash 8 order line is quieter!

You will note it was an error in the system go and have a look on 25 June now and see that it is only E190 that have J class

It would appear to have been an error, have to keep dreaming for now

I'm not horrified I'm happy. DJ were losing money hand over fist with the E-Jets operation, the ATR fleet (although they look like something only a mother would love) will give DJ/Skywest a much better chance at taking on QFlink.
