Recently I’ve started looking again at business class fares after almost two years. I was shocked to find out that Qantas is charging 5-6K syd sin return for late Feb flights. Comparing that to SQ on similar dates for just below 4K and with options of A350/380/777. What were they thinking, those Qantas sales people thinking?

Yeah, they don't price like that out of other countries where there are fewer Australians committed to only choosing them above all others.

But here, there are a lot of QF FF junkies that will choose them, so they price like that for flights out of Australia because there are those willing to pay and committed to status. Go figure.

We get a great % discount plus rebate = a healthy discount. But everyone is on their own deal yes.
Oh, absolute. We are on their best rate but still find its more expensive than other carriers occasionally but not much that can be done about it. Unfortunately those rates can’t be used for leisure flights 🤣

Also QFF points are easy to keep alive, and so long as there is activity ever so often, your points won't expire.
So while indeed QF is much more pricier, its a gain there QFF wise, as to life length of points and LTSC.
Granted that the only way points go out if theft of points, as mentioned on here.
But if you keep the eye on the ball, and report to QFF asap as points go via fraud, there is something that might be able to be done.
If you go with SQ, while its cheaper, their SQ KF miles only last 3 years, and no way of extending that (except due to covid).
