I'm looking at going direct from BNE to LHR (return) in January next year. I have found a Qantas Business Saver fare that will get me there and back business class for $7,600. The fare needs to be flexible in terms of the return leg ie. extendable. Does anybody have any views on the business saver fares? Warnings or what not?

I'm trying to get over there as cheaply as possible in business class but I don't want dodgy business class. Would any of you have any suggestions other than Qantas? I've heard Cathay business is nice, but fares seem to be around $9,000 and I'd like to pay a little less than that.

Would a round the world fare out of Fiji be better ($A6,500)? I don't know the pitfalls of doing that other than having to get an el cheapo flight to fiji to start it off.

SAS has a fare with Thai to London for $4560 plus taxes and fines. Thai to BKK and then SAS via Stockholm to London which looks like quite a cheap fare. SAS looks to have a decent business class

Fare seems quite decent compared to QFs lowest of $6872 plus taxes and fines

If you can get $7800 on QF Metal (not BA) to UK/EU in J then thats a steal.

I think for the money Thai offer a good product, I wouldn't call anything about them dodgy, JL is also good but it's not going to be much less than QF.

Thanks, Dave. $7,226.61 AUD fully flexible business. That's pretty good!

Travel Guru, unfortunately that Qantas fare I had had a huge leg with BA. Apart from the old dragons they have for attendants is business no good with them?

I'm looking up SAS for someone popping to Oz later in the year. It seems that you can also use London City airport rather than having to start at LHR which gives a v nice option if you are going to be to the east of town

I would have expected that the $4560 fare plus taxes wouldn't come to more than $5500 ish

Much nicer airport than LHR to be flying in/out of

Just checked the fares, inc tax, the lowest SK ticket seems to be $6660 in jan with more expensive ones at what you were saying. Seems a good deal to me

Dave

No not at all, it's just BA regularly have a J special fare around that price whereas I can't remember the last time I saw a QF metal fare at that price.

LH have a fare at $5700++ which isn't too bad.

TG is likely to only save you $500 over the BA fare once taxes are included, so i'd go BA for the pts and SC's

If I use the business combination fare it drops to $6,300 including taxes. Will that mean flying economy to BKK then business to London? Same price to fly to City as Heathrow.

How do I know I'm getting a J fare with BA? Plus if it's a special does the "J" mean it's flexible?

The $6300 fare will be all in business class I am pretty certain given the fare listings. To be sure, I would suggest a call to SK and verify

The fare is indeed the same to City and Heathrow ; if City is conveniant for where you are going, I would take it over LHR

The lowest BA fare would seem to be $7600 which is a lot more than $6600 and 24000 QF miles are not worth close to that

As far as frequent flyer miles go, SK is part of Star Alliance so there is plenty of opportunity to earn miles.

Yeah I've just looked at BA and couldn't find a comparable price. Points are a definite second to me. I appreciate the effort Dave, cheers for that.
