anyone got any experiences on SYD_DPS in J?
I had a friend fly there in august and said it wasnt worth the extra.
not sure if they have upgraded the aircraft since.

The aircraft is the standard domestic/short haul 737-800. Should have the "new" 8x J seats at the front. It's a fairly long hike in a narrow bodied aircraft.

As much as I love flying VA, I'd say Don't do it! Narrow body for so many hours is not fun. This is a route where the lack of footrest etc...becomes really noticeable. And the food is the same as mainline, not that plentiful. And if you are peckish forget asking for anything from Y menu as it normally sells out in the first half hour of the flight. However, if you are happy with the seats, mainline J food and using a Galaxy tab then it would be okay as you have your own loo to use at the front. I just found MEL-DPS not so comfy.

Oh if only it were domestic J food, I found the food like something you might tip out of a tin. I don't think airline food has ever caused me to almost vomit before but the J food on DJ DPS-SYD did. The overnight flight back to Sydney is most unpleasant. If you're paying full price for J, I'd say save your dollars. I will never spend good money on that route in J again. It was very ordinary.

I flew J up and Y back last month, upgrading using points to do so and during their recent promotion doing so for half the points. It was worth it IMO, and previous posters must have copped bad catering as ours was fine - better in fact than domestic J. The crew also kept the Sav Blanc flowing. Being a red-eye return and knowing I would sleep well meant I didn't bother flying J on the return leg, and those flights are always only 2/3rds full so if you have status you are pretty much guaranteed having row 4 to yourself to stretch out in. I certainly wouldn't pay $1,300 a sector for it though, which I believe was the going rate.
