Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone's noticed any good deals from Europe-Aus in early Jan 2014? Don;t mind where in europe if the deal is good enough. Try to stick to Oneworld, and Finnair's normally the best (pricewise) I've found in the past. Anyone got any good suggestions? Any 'unusual' options? I've seen some very good RJ fares from europe to asia, but never onto Australia... And I believe there used to be some good S7 fares around (codeshare on QF) but can't see any of these any more. I'd have thought there may also be some options on JL (afterall, JL sometimes have very good fares from Australia-Europe) but I can never see anything with them either... am I just looking in the wrong places (normally search though kayak, skyscanner etc). There's two of us travelling, but there's not even too many companion fares these days...
Thanks

Try MH?
The had a sale last month - was just under 5k per person MEL-CDG

Seems about just under 11k for two in J MEL-CDG in Jan (may have to be flexible on this for a lower price).
The A330 MEL-KUL J is OK but the A380 KUL-CDG is more confortable

If you time it right you can enjoy QF Flounge hospitality before you leave... take the afternoon flight out of MEL (QF Flounge is closed for the MH ~midnight departure)

Ummm...the OP is asking for Europe - Oz guys, not the other way round.

$3700 for LHR to SYD return with China Eastern is pretty good. They're partners with Qantas too...might not be the best airline, or the best option for anyone besides Qantas or Skyteam FFers, but for that price, it's certainly a bargain.

I just got back from Europe in Business Class one way for about $2,300; I seem to recall that return trips could be booked for slightly less than double that price. MXP-AUH on Etihad (booked as an Alitalia codeshare on alitalia.com), complimentary chauffeur to DXB, and DXB-HKG-SYD on Cathay Pacific (booked on cathaypacific.com). No idea if there's availability on the dates you require, though.

Just happened to be looking for my MIL yesterday for early Jan - WAW - SYD in J return - Finnair (AY) WAW HEL SIN and QF SIN SYD or AY - WAW HEL HKG and CX HKG SYD starting at $3700+ with a total flight time inc connections of 30hrs and $4112 with a total flight time inc connections of 25 hours. Through Expedia.com.au

From memory there was also a BA mix in there for around the same price but routing through London.

It depends where in Europe you want to leave from, if you are happy to leave from a part of Europe where Asia is only a ferry ride away you may be able to score some reasonable fares. ;)

Puzzles over, I often look on kayak.com, which can be reasonably reliable, do a variable date search - but you have to invest the time in looking at different origin points. There can be gems sometimes, but it really can vary quite a bit where the cheap fares start from and who they are on.

Not really much of a puzzle.. that's IST :D

I often find decent fares on MH CDG->Aus, last time I looked they had J for 1800 GBP return. Decent.

S7 code shares on QF are still available.... You just can't book online...

Thanks for all the responses so far.

I'd come across the AY and MH fares mentioned above previously - very good value I'd say. In fact, I'm about to use the MH offer from London very soon. Unfortunately the cheap fare from Paris isn't (currently) available on or around the dates I'm travelling in Jan 2014.

pauly7 do you have any more info on the S7 fares? i.e. what routes they cover, where/how to find out more about and then book them etc? Their website (route map) shows a lot of their codeshares with CX etc, but nothing I can see on Qantas.

The recent decline in A$ has taken a little of the shine off buying Europe-Aus for the regular travellers between the two regions... but it still seems to be $$$ cheaper than the buying fares from Aus to Europe...

They did have codeshares literally a month ago as we had to organise a trip to Russia....but a recent quote has seen them booking through Etihad and Abu Dhabi. Bizarre...

Etihad isn't that fantastic so I pulled it.

family friend who is NOT a frequent flyer and who had previously been flying Qatar back and further to Europe tried out china eastern... because of the cost... said they had a spectacular flight... full flat beds, service good, food fine. they've only flown the outbound so far (Europe to Australia), I think the return involves a bit of an extended layover in PVG.
