Business class and toilets

MH are pretty good at policing the J toilets for J passengers. It's a free-for-all on US airlines on their domestic flights.

The one in the front is reserved for 8 business class passengers only and the 168 economy have to share two toilets at the back...

I've been a sole pax in J on a 737 on the first day of school holidays before with what looked like every Y seat taken. I extremely appreciated my exclusive toilet and peaceful cabin.

The only time I've seen VA open up the front toilet is when J was empty. As long as there is one pax in J it's a J toilet.

I've flown in a heavy load Y before with zero J pax and the magnetic rope was still up and announcement was made after door closed front toilet was for J pax only...... that I didn't get.

I recently flew HBA - BNE in Row 3 and there were 4 passengers in J. Must have been some kind of school trip because the plane was full of kids 16 / 17 yr olds. Even the rest of Row 3 full of kids. Every seat taken. I must have seen atleast 20 attempts of these kids to break through the rope and get into that J toilet....and all were expertly expelled.

VA are pretty good with it. I can't stand people who can't follow instructions or DYKWIA (often with no ff status). I see this on PY on every flight on CX. The attitudes of non FF DYKWIA's on PY are the worst. Just because they've paid extra over Y, these guys think they own the plane and deserve J or F level of service and exclusiveness.

PY on CX uses the economy toilets which are behind. Most DM or SG members (we get bulkhead on PY) have no issues with using the Y toilets behind. The attitudes other PAX have when they are trying to get through the curtains are so poor I have wanted to step in so many times to put them back in place.

I have to drink a lot of water on planes due to DVT risk from a blood clotting disorder. Perhaps the lady was pregnant. Perhaps she had a uti.

Or drank a lot of tea. I go more than once on some flights as I'm always well hydrated.

I've seen plenty of Y PAX using the J bathrooms on VA, they just magically move the magnets to one side and stroll on up.
It always blows me away when this happens especially on a BNE-SYD or vice versa.
I try not to judge those who have to use the bathroom on an hour long flight, because I don't know their medical situation, but as a male in my early thirties I almost seldom use the bathroom on a domestic flight.

As a usually economy passenger I get annoyed when other economy passengers move to the front bathroom. I think it's arrogance. The only exception is if the trolley is in the way but usually that isn't the case.

This! The only time I've used the J toilet while in Y was when specifically directed to by cabin crew. Even from row 4, I'll go backwards. Plus the walk does me good.

Anything is possible. I thought about it before I posted it and it was just an observation. My mother would have had to go at least five times during a trip of that length. The last (the VERY last) time I ever flew with her we were on final approach to SYD over Kurnell and she took off her seatbelt and made to go to the toilet before I stopped her. She's still around but I won't let her fly any more (she's 85 and frail).

What can be annoying for fellow pax is when the frequent 'goer' sits in the window seat necessitating two people to get up ever time. Most would sit in the aisle however but I've had the experience with some bloke who thought beer and mixed drinks were the only way to stay hydrated on long haul.

It is amazing how the majority of people can commute around an hour to work every day without needing to make a toilet stop, but put them in a plane and they cant last 20 minutes.

Yes, I would hate to be going on long drives with these people.

.....and for some completely unknown and bizarre reason, they won't allow you to take your own bucket on board.

hmm,not so sure. The one time I flew F on MH they had trouble even policing the seats. KUL-CDG, the F cabin was a lot fuller on landing than on take off. VA will often let row 3 or 4 use the J toilets if you ask nicely.

That's often me.

The difference is I'm not lounging around for ~45 minutes at home drinking before jumping in the car to go to work, whereas immediately before boarding a plane I am. Yes I did try to go before I boarded ;)

Actually the first thing I do at the end of a journey, regardless of length is go to the loo. Something about the vibrations?

As for restricted loos for J pax, absolutely. I travel enough in J and Y to respect why they are separate cabins. There are occasional reasons why Y pax need to use the J loo but J pax must get priority (even if their luggage doesn't ).

Well that's not QF policy on 737 aircraft - the front toilet is for J pax (and crew) only. It's part of the standard CSM announcement just after the aircraft is airborne. But whether crew choose to police it or not is another matter.
It's obviously not policed at all. I have had four subsequent QF flights on a 738 and the front toilet was open slather.

This is a rant, sorry.

I have problem understanding why VA makes front lavatory on B737-800 available to business class passengers only.

I don't. Classes exist for a reason and we're glad for it. We pay much much more in points/dollars to have a nice quiet flight experience where waiting is for other people, from check-in to collecting the bags at the destination. The last thing I want is some first-time flyer interrupting my G&T and "The Virtue of Selfishness" whilst queuing for the head.

:).

This! First place I go after disembarking any domestic (international is different) flight is for a leak. What i have drunk or eaten, whether I've gone on board or how many or few times or whether it's just prior to landing Is irrelevant - I still have to go immediately after. No idea why.
Re J toilets for J pax, totally agree with the principle and I will readily March all the way back from row 4 (QF) or 3 (VA) to the back to go to the loo. Sure, there's been the odd occasion where the FA has invited me to use the J loo, and I'm sure the occasional person may have a legitimate need to go forward instead of back, but as a rule you pay for J you get J, pay for Y you get Y.

Reckon the OP might like to retract the rant? Not exactly a supportive audience here hey?
