Building a Home

Had a call from the site supervisor on Friday. Other than Australia Day resulting in a 2-day break this week, finishing touches should be happening towards the end of the week, including fly door, aerial and installing lovelight roller blinds throughout – they were cheap at the time and it made sense to get a house with window coverings! Site/house clean should also be happening and then the process of tagging and fixing issues.

I'm told they'll want to get PCI (Practical Completion Inspection) done by mid-February, which means – barring any issues – we should still be on for handover in March. Then of course I will need to start other processes, before we can move in. Hope to have more to share again by Thursday, as always.

Looking forward to adding a bit more colour to the place and making it a home.
Your build is looking good, I have a question that you may have answered somewhere up thread. What colour is you kitchen cabinetry as in some of the photos that I am viewing (on my device) they look grey and other parts look deep blue, maybe it is just the light but if this is the effect that will be longer term, it looks great. As for others comments about the front door colour, similar and great minds must think alike.

All our kitchen cabinets are Laminex’s French Navy ☺️ I think there was a brief moment we considered two colours (one upper, one lower) but this seems to have worked much better.

Just went through the sink/double sink stuff. Will you have a dishwasher (electric, not manual variety!) ? I have DW and double sink and find that the second sink just becomes a place for stuff to go into the dishwasher or somewhere for things to drain, which otherwise would have done on a longer drainage board. That is, if you have a dishwasher, don't miss a second sink.

And my third sink, in the butler's pantry, ever since I let the butler go is a permanent, dry repository for bottles of oil, sauce, wine waiting to go in the fridge etc. Just evolved that way.

Sorry, anyone lucky enough to have a butlers pantry doesn't get to have an opinion on second sinks 😉😂

In the island are double sinks, as you can see. Not visible (but in the island) are double dish drawers – new for me, but I have seen others use them so I think I'll adjust. And then the single sink in the butlers pantry. I figure the single sink in the butlers pantry will be useful when doing a sous vide cook, as that can then be run entirely in that space, keeping the main kitchen clear. The sink will then come in handy for disposing of the water post-cooking. I guess I use the also-nearby laundry sink for baptisms or for use as an icebath to keep the champagne cold? :p

A F&P dishwasher? Or I think their patent is out of time now, so maybe other brand. I love my 2 drawer one, usually only ever use the one; have to remember to use the lower drawer to keep it in good nick.

I've never had dish drawers before but will in our next move and can already see how great they are. I like having a sink full of hot sudsy water and a sink to chuck down the water from cooking etc. I'm a messy cook.

I have 2 single dish drawers, one on either side of the double sink. This means no bending down to the bottom drawer. Love them.

I use the smaller sink for washing homegrown veggies, I can soak the dirt off but still have a sink to wash dishes in.
That's how I figured I'd use them appropriately in the new house... but in practice who knows ;)
A F&P dishwasher?
Indeed.

The house came with appliances, so the cooktop + range, microwave, dish drawers and fridge are all F&P. Appliances can be costly, so worked for us.

Just be very careful with what you put in them. Anything sharp or pointed has a risk of being flipped up to puncture the membrane that comes down over the top of the drawer when you are running the cycle. Does nasty things to the electronics.
