Budget Mystery Car

I'm currently living in LA but visiting home next month for a couple of weeks.

Through the United website I've booked a Budget (BNE airport pickup) mystrey car which is described as:

Mystery Car Compact or Larger or similar
Exotic/Special

Anyone had any experience with Budget's mystery cars in Australia? I wonder if there's any chance I'll get anything cool.

If the booking is for a couple of weeks, it’ll be whatever they need to get kilometres on. Probably a mid size Hyundai or MG SUV!
Smaller cars are booked routinely. Larger SUVs and utes are generally booked very specifically so I reckon they’ll have a good handle on those.

Yeah, I booked something similar a few years back at MCO to drive to MIA and they gave me a Toyota Land Cruiser V8. Very nice and with the cheap fuel in the USA, not a problem at all.

An update on this. What I ended up getting was fine but not very interesting. It was a Mazda 3 hatchback. Almot brand new, only had 800km on the clock.

Far from "Exotic/special." Yanks would have a compensation field day.

What worries me if selecting mystery car is getting an EV, I have nothing against EVs and will buy one myself when the time is right, but I cant think of anything worse than having to deal with charging while travelling and in unfamiliar areas.

Do you know if its possible they give you electric and they dont give you a choice?

Don't know about EV, but in one instance (not with Budget) I got a Hyundai Staria. While not a bad vehicle I did ask about any other vehicle available - not the easiest thing to reverse park and when you're the only occupant not what you need - and was told no other vehcles available. Truth or fob off I don't know.

From memory only Sixt have electric now, Budget/Avis don’t.

Add Hertz to the list with electric vehicles, and mystery vehicles which specifically note that mystery includes electric possibility.

Booked a Mystery car through Europcar at MCY last weekend. Got a BMW. iX2. Was not required to return it with any charge left. “ just enough to park it “
Not bad for the price of a Corolla.

same, but cant take on dirt roads, plus the NT have a 100km limit- pay per km after that.
