Bryce Canyon- Who has been there

You come across amazing places as you research. The pictures and the commentary grabbed me, I am an avid landscape photographer (amateur I must admit) but I saw this and said I need to go there. I am sure that I will get a response to how was your visit and is it as good as it looks.

It is far better than it looks was last their in 2007. IMHO as good as if not better than the Grand Canyon

It's more a question of how long you have got.There is so much more than just Bryce Canyon.Canyonlands NP,Arches NP.Across into Colorado and Mesa verde NP,Rocky mountains NP.north into Wyoming and Grand Teton and Yellowstone.Not far from the Grand canyon and Monument valley.

I was there about 4 years ago. Didn't plan on visiting but a number of people in the US said it worth a visit and it was. I was there in summer - was quite hot until it poured with rain while walking through the valley. Made walking up the long and reasonably steep ramp out of the valley back to the Car park interesting - the rain turned the top few cm of orange/red dirt into clay like mud that stuck to my shoes and made walking up a ramp extremely slippery!

I was there about 5 years ago. Definitely worth the trek. There is so much to see out that way. As has been suggested it all depends on how much time you have. You wouldn't be disappointed.

The Geology of Utah is amazing, though in my opinion Zion National Park, some 70 miles from Bryce, is the most impressive of the regions natural formations. I preferred it to the G.C. or Bryce because you were in it rather than looking down into it.

If you make it to Bryce then you really should drive Utah Scenic Byway12. One of the best scenic drives in the States - truly amazing.

Only have a couple of days, been looking at Zion as well but not enough time to give both justice.

We first went there in 1996. When I asked the travel agent about it back then they knew nothing.
So I booked it myself and was truly amazed at the landscape. So much so we went back 4 years later to spend more time. Hiking down in amongst the trails and hoodoos, you are confront with such beautiful colours capped with the most vivid blue sky. We loved it. I also agree with Zion as well it is beautiful as is all the countryside in that area.
But go, as a photographer you won't be disappointed.

Bit of adjustment to the intinerary, both Bryce and Zion are now on the agenda along with the GC

Spent a couple of nights at Zion in April this year. My husband who is an ex professional photographer was really in his element and ranked it as one of his favourite places photographically. It will depend on the time of year you visit whether you can drive your own car through the park but don't let the idea of the shuttle buses put you off as they work out really well. The buses stop at multiple points in the park and you can get on and off as you like and simply get on the next bus that comes along. When we were there we only waited 5 minutes or so for another bus to continue on. Regardless of the time of year you can always drive the Mt Carmel Highway (stunning) and some other surrounding areas. Enjoy!

First visit was in the '70's with my parents.
Since then have visited all the cool Utah place, Arches, Zion, Moab, etc.

Great part of the US, but watch the heat in July/August, seriously hot.

The western parks are amazing, you can trip over as you get out of the car and the camera goes off and a great shot can be had.

Where I live we have rich red clay in certain parts, you grow 2 inches as you walk. Sure we can survive that

We did Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce in Jan 1994..Wasn't as impressed with GC although only viewed it from the top, whereas trekked thru Zion and Bryce.. I can't take a photo to save myself but when I got my photos developed (pre digital) I was complimented on the shots I took..Bryce and Zion are that amazing! As an aside, stayed in a backpackers in Kanab run by a guy named Errol, which was also memorable..$10/night with buffet breakfast and takeway for lunch..Errol matched us up with others who had transport plus he gave us park entry tickets...As a bonus he had dinner waiting for us when we got back each night....Nice guy that Errol..

Went to Bryce Canyon in May 2012 to see the solar annular eclipse. Scenery was truly wonderful, but Zion and Grand Canyon were even better.

So we are booked into accommodation in Springdale for Zion Canyon, right on the Canyon booked out 9 months out, Bryce Canyon Lodge self explanatory for where, and El Tovar the Grand Canyon. Staying in September so wish us good weather.
