British Airways to cut flights to Australia

I have a Qantas award flight to London late September flying BA. Part of the journey on a 777 and the remainder on a 747. If they cut one of these flights what happens to my award flight?

I would expect that Qantas/BA will just rebook you onto a flight that is operating. I doubt that you will have much impact at all since the QF/ BA arrivals via SIN all arrive at similar times

That is reassuring, as this is a much anticipated holiday with lots of linked bookings in Europe.

BRITISH Airways is reducing its capacity to Australia by 5 per cent by cutting some flights over the northern winter, but says it remains committed to the market.
Probably the most over used phrase in aviation at the moment is "remains committed to the market".
A friend of mine who is a BA captain told me recently that BA is losing so much cash on the route that were it not for the JSA BA would pull out of the route and leave it to others because BA is a European airline with European management culture (whatever that is) and that they would be better off out of it.
I have always though that BA would be doing fairly well out of the kangaroo route as it surely provides a means of getting Australian passengers onto it's European network but my friend says that in reality it's just not bringing in enough money.
I don't know whether he was pulling my leg or not but it's interesting nonetheless.

I'm surprised that BA still even operates its own flights to Australia

The cost of aticket in relation to the time spent by the aeroplane is so low that Im surprised that they don't just stick to codesharing on Qantas from Asia to Australia

With BA's close relationship to QF i think it would make more sense if they had QF put on a few extra flights to SIN etc and just fly to the SIN/BKK/NRT/HKG etc.

Thing is its like bragging rights "we fly to 6 continents" blah blah

BA are doing it tough judging by my recent flights, F seems very empty although club/business seems to be better.
In contrast even if QF are gowing to the back of the plane and shuffleing everybody up they do seem to have better loads on the flights i have been on.

BA is a wonderful airline if you are lucky enough to fly up front and i very much hope they manage to make it through the tough time without too much damage and without dropping too many routes.

Well they pulled out of MEL when the going was good so it's no surprize that there are more cutbacks now the going is tougher.
But I hope they make it otherwise the powers that be in the MCC will have no one to entrust their little urn to if it were ever to come here again (it flies in its own seat in F in a big aluminum box. Lucky urn!!
