British Airways refunds for flight cancellations

Our travelling companion has both credits in her accounts already. The first landed within two days, the second on the third. Our credits landed overnight. Not even close to what we paid so I’m confused as I was told we were supposed to be getting full refunds. Too much for currency fluctuation. Might email them and ask what the credit amount actually was in ZAR. Just one hotel booking to sort out then miraculously we are done.

We paid total of ZAR7598.11/$770.41 (converted in Jan/Feb at .101xx).
We were refunded $644.52.
As at today's XE rate of 0.08 that's 7624.94 so it's right.
What a fluctuation!

I called the British Airways' number (+44 20 3250 0145) that their website said was the one to use to request a refund for a cancelled flight. After 3 unsuccessful attempts at getting through to a human, I thought it might have been my timing. Today I called at 07:00 UK time, 16:00 AEST, and success! No waiting and a real person knew exactly what to do.

Domestic UK flight for May 2020 was cancelled on 9 April 2020. We started ringing the advertised UK phone number on 21 April, at least twice a night. "It's a difficult time, we're very busy", disconnect.

On 24 April we finally got through to a human, who did sound quite stressed, but who started the process, saying that it would take 3 weeks.

On 29 June, with no refund, we started ringing again, to get the same "It's a difficult time" message and disconnection.

Came across the number for BA's Gold Executive Club members (+44 800 123 111). Rang that, got onto someone, explained the problem and apologised. They were sympathetic, checked and said that we were still in the queue, but now escalated.

Finally, the refunds came through to the credit card on 18 July. Overall, 12 and a bit weeks. Thankfully phone calls to the UK are now so cheap ... at the old rate of $3 a minute, we would have spent our refund trying to get our refund.<g>
 
Husband put in a request for refund on a LHR to to Denmark as the flight was cancelled.
Not a huge amount of funds coming back however as they cancelled it husband did follow it up
Now just to wait

My refund from British Airways landed in my credit card this morning, taking 6 days. lightning speed compared to Qantas!!
 
Bringing this thread back to life to see if anyone can help. My parents were meant to travel to Europe in 2020 on a BA ticket. They currently hold a credit with BA. They would like to go to Europe long term next year (they are dual nationals and they should be able to get a 3+ month travel exemptions) but with BA and its partners (QF) not flying to Australia for the foreseeable future, their BA credit is not much good.

Do you know if BA are refunding the travel credits? The original booking was through Webjet who are unsurprisingly not responsive, so I wanted to find out if BA would likely issue the refund before dragging Webjet kicking and screaming to make it happen.

Yes I thought about posting there but thought I'd try here to get the Australian perspective, especially given the lack of BA services in Australia.

Revenue or award ticket? If an award ticket, I think they are able to get a refund less £35 per person.

Could they get a codeshare flight, say on Qatar?

Another alternative, not necessarily that straightforward mind you, could be to find a flight that is still for sale but where there is a high chance of cancellation. Use the voucher to book that; they will get a cash refund IF it is cancelled. If the flight is not cancelled by BA, they could cancel again for another Future Travel Voucher. The risk of that though is that by whenever that is, BA might have changed/stopped their FTV policy so not sure I would do it unless they can't see an alternative.

Using it from SIN or on a codeshare seems to be the best idea unless prices are silly.
