Hoping to fly from Brisbane to Sri Lanka on or around 24th Dec , for approx 2 weeks and upgrade to business using my QFF points, and a fast route, what would be my best option please ?

If you mean purchase a Y ticket and then upgrade to J, the furthest you'd be able to get would be SIN since you can only use QF points to upgrade on a QF-operated flight, and they don't fly to CMB. You could then try for a FF partner award SIN-CMB or just buy a cheap ticket separately.

Note that points upgrades are not guaranteed and you often don't find out until the day of travel whether you have been successful or not.

Thank you, I have upgraded before and had a 90% hit rate with upgrades, but possibly wont this time due to the time of travel. Good idea to look at buying a separate ticket for SIN - CNB, didnt think of that.

Tickets from SIN-CMB are often quite cheap anyway, so this could be a good option regardless.

If you do end up booking a Y ticket from SIN to CMB on Sri Lankan Airlines, you may be offered the chance to bid for an upgrade anyway.

Why is that Mattg, is it because they are affiliated with Qantas ?

I'm assuming your question is about bidding for an upgrade on Sri Lankan?

No, it has nothing to do with Qantas. They quite regularly send out email invitations to Y passengers to bid for an upgrade with cash (not points). Although, it does depend on the predicted cabin loading in J - if J is full, it probably won't be offered.

They often have 30% off deals - we picked up cheap J flights DXB-CMB-SIN.

You should also consider one way to Sri Lanka as the fares exCMB are a lot less expensive than exAustralia...

Happy wandering

Fred

Malaysian (which is Oneworld) has a very cheap sale on in Business. You'll get from SIN or BKK to CMB very inexpensively and get lots of status credits. Book via the SIN or Thai websites

Thanks Fred , will have a look at that and also sign up to the news letter.
