I have J award flights booked Brisbane to Broome via Perth.

I’ve just received notification that my 9am flight from Brisbane to Perth has been cancelled and I’ve been put on one at 16:15 ( now have to overnight in Perth .. flight to Broome next day at 9:25) . The only problem when I checked to see what other alternatives there might be, the 16:15 flight does not exist.

And the same thing with another Brisbane to Perth flight, been moved from 9am flight to the 7 am flight but it doesn’t exist on the web site.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on? I’ve never seen this before.

I'm in a similar situation, with a MEL-PER flight in early May. I got switched to a flight which now does not show up as bookable, but I don't think that's the same as does not exist. Could be just that it's full. Certainly all a bit strange though. I was also looking at PER-MEL flights in early May. When I began monitoring I think there were 4 or 5 direct QF flights showing on my preferred date. Now there are none. Others have suggested QF might be planning for crew shortages.
When was/is your flight?

It still does not make a lot of sense tbh. Flight consolidation is one thing and I an understand that, as annoying as it is, but to be in a situation where there's zero seats for sale 6+ weeks out from travel date that seems crazy. Got to think something else is going on. Probably something not good. I'd like to think this is not a situation that has been intended by QF.

I do know staffing and so on is done a month or two out, and one wonders if perhaps there might be a resource issue - maybe not staff per se but another related issue - causing this.

It doesn't seem at all right.

Yeah, it is absolutely very strange. If they had consolidated all existing passengers on to one flight, then surely they would put another flight on for all the pax yet to book given the flight is, as you say, 6+ weeks away. Granted, there are Jetstar flights available, but still...

It's a worry.

Meanwhile, QAN is up more than 5% today, after several days of big jumps (albeit after a period of pretty severe price decline). A thing that makes you go hmmmmmm...

If your on that 0700 flight ex Brisbane to Perth its usually assigned to an A330. Ive just got 3 changes emailed to myself as well. The most significant change i received was on Brisbane to Cairns . They cancelled QF710 ex Bne 1230 and put us on QF714 ex 1505 - May 2022

Everything is shambolic at the moment, particularly it seems between the W coast and nether regions.

I've got about 20 bookings running out from May to year-end. Several downgauging A330 flights to B738 have occurred.

I've also just had September flights between PER and DRW changed from QF(mainline) B738 to QLink(as Network Aviation) all-whY A320.

Now, as far as I can see from their website (Welcome to Network Aviation - Network Aviation), Network Aviation is usually intra-WA only serving mine sites under contract.

So there is a heck of a lot of juggling going on that seems to be reaching a crescendo.

Every booking I make, I'm setting up EF bird change alerts as well as my SOP of seat alerts.

I dream that some of the downgauges may get reverted... 🤔

Ive got a Perth- Darwin (737) booked late May ill let you know if i get shifted

Slightly off topic, but I played golf yesterday in Perth at the Whaleback course which is under the landing path to Perth airport. First time in ages that there were quite a few aircraft flying over us as we played. Good to see.

My flight is mid June.

I’ve had several Brisbane to Cairns and return flights changed too. One from 9am to 12noon approx.

The thing is I can’t see that 7 am Brisbane to Perth flight on their web site! There is only 1 direct flight and that is at 1pm.

Meanwhile no such issues at VA....

Just requested refunds for a bunch of cancelled flights.....rebooked on VA...at a cheaper price

Its an evolving beast

Taking a couple of random weeks in late May and early September, EF indicates that the only day a B738 flies PER-DRW direct is Tuesday.
JohnM. Please could you help me decide which is the best/most convenient hotel at Perth airport for an overnight stop. I may have to do this with the new schedules BNE to BME.

Thanks.

As a local, I really have no idea, I’m afraid. There are none in the airport precinct. There are several motels along Great Eastern Highway on the way into the city, but I don’t think too many higher-level hotels, if any. Might be better to go to the CBD, but of course it depends what you want.

I’d say just scope Booking.com unless someone else has actual experience.

Weirdness continues. This morning I see that QF have put one flight back on for May 5th PER-MEL. I was wondering if that would happen, but didn't expect it to happen so soon after taking them all off. Gotta think good chance more will be put back on too. (I should note, this is all based on what's available to book.)

Interestingly SYD-PER schedules hasn't been touched which indicates its not a demand issue, more around scheduling. Rumours are there are international changes afoot and PER might be back in favour very soon (QF9/10) with schedules yet to be loaded ex MEL (Hence why no change to SYD). QF9/10 is struggling at the moment and unless its re-routed via PER it will likely get chopped.

Aha, that's an interesting rumour, and could explain a bit.

That new flight (QF770) is a 737 added. The others are still there but zeroed out (see the other thread).

I am wondering if they may be juggling capacity on the other flgiths and not wanting to sell (more) seats on those flights in case there is more consolidation to come. 2 of those other flights iirc were/are A330's which may hint at downguage (ie 330's going elsewhere).

Things obviously in flux. Very unusual to have schedules so fluid < 3 months out. I mean usually all this stuff would be sorted out well in advance of the summer/winter blocks. Sign of the times really but really not a great look or good for customers who only see one flight to book and the others seem in some sort of limbo.

Agree that's probably your best bet. There's a newer quest, aloft, along with more budget options along that road too. Probably 10-15 to the qantas terminal, traffic dependent.
