Hey There,

My folks are looking to book flights to Paris from Brisbane leaving late August (25th onwards) and returning early October. Preferably premium economy or higher.

They have 600,000 frequent flyer points saved, with bronze QFF.

I have QF Gold status, which will expire in May. My thoughts are we would do a transfer of points to my account, and I would book for them with the greater availability in Gold?

A quick search on Qantas reveals very limited options, and no way to get there return in Business or even premium economy on all legs. I'd be happy to use another 100,000 points to take it to 700000 if need be.

Would love any help possible and happy to pay $30 (or double that if its a great option!) for the advice used.

Thanks,

Peter.

My understanding is you can book the flights for them when you are logged on as QF Gold. You don't need to travel.

Thanks Gigi, yeah I'm confident I can book the flights through mine, and looks as though you can now do unlimited points transfers between family up to 600,000. I'm more looking for info on what flight options are available, they're open to all airlines. If there is some sort of way to get them there and back in business, which I can't see at the moment.

How crazy are they willing to go in terms of a route?

I've come up with 3 crazy options in each directions with a varying number of points. All are in Business Class but sorry I can't say the taxes as QF will only show it when you've got enough points. I'm only Bronze so all of these are available to everyone.

The cheapest is 554,800 points for two people to book

BNE-CNS (JQ Y) CNS-NRT (JQ J) NRT-LHR-CDG (BA J) CDG-DOH-SIN (QR J)

That would leave you with 45,200 points to get from Singapore back to Brisbane but there isn't anything in J from SIN-BNE to complete the trip (maybe your QF Gold status shows more seats).

Ironically SIN-PER has got some space on the 7th but only when booking SIN-PER-DRW... which means SIN-PER-DRW-SYD-BNE is available but SIN-PER-BNE is not.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If you are having trouble with availability. It can be worth looking at some sectors individually.
You might be able to find flights with, for example, a longer layover in SYD than would be allowed on one ticket.
With cash fares this would be much more expensive.
However as reward seats are generally priced by sector it shouldn't make much if any difference.

Also availability on some oneworld airlines such as MH (Malaysian) won't show up on the QF site.
If you or someone you know has a BA account you can see them through that.
Then you can call the QF call centre to book.

Definitely search individual sectors. For example on the 27th there looks to be decent availability BNE-HKG on QF. Looks pretty poor availability to CDG so I’d suggest flying in to another European port and getting a cheap flight or train. GVA, AMS, BRU, MXP as a starter.
Just having a quick look for the way over and as an example
27th August
BNE-HKG QF
2hr stop
HKG-DXB EK
Various length stopovers
DXB-xx_ (Euro Port) EK
163,300 points/pp

If you don't missing positioning to any asian port on a cash ticket, perhaps looking at SIN/HKG/BKK with EK or QR may give good results.
I did that and was a bit flexible with dates and layovers and worked out reasonable availability.

Thanks all, just reviewing all these options tonight. They are excited that there might be options. A few extra legs never hurt anyone in business class ;).

Not sure why but very little availability to/from CDG at that time of the year but plenty of great cities within a shortish radius. Personally I’d fly to a BRU or GVA and get the HS train. Brussels is only about 90 minutes by train and some decent countryside, the ride from Geneva is just over 3 hours but also very nice.
If they did want to leave about a week later there was a fair bit of QR availability showing aswell if they would rather them over EK

Thanks all for your input, after many many hours unfortunately we weren't able to find anything in the end. Will keep on the lookout and let you know if anything comes to fruition. Cheers.
