Brisbane Airtrain ticket rort

The other fare evading scam involved not swiping off once you arrived at your home station. The default charge for this used to be $5, it's now $10. They've since introduced scripts to search their data for repeat offenders in order to take action against them. A smart taxi company would provide dedicated taxi pooling zones in the CBD for airport clients.

Or install gates that require a minimum balance at the airport to open... not that I want them getting their greedy hands on any more money!

Not simple either.. for many reasons. But they are not getting more money.. airtrain gets paid either way.

I am surprised it took this long for "the rort" to be reported. Has been in existence for a long time, and I suspect a translink mole leaked the information that the government was either not privy to or chose to ignore.

As I see it, it's not an AirTrain or a public problem. It's a TransLink/government problem. They gave AirTrain the ability to rort everyone, effectively selling us out, so while probably not practical, they should fix the broader problem before tackling fare evasion, as it's no wonder why it's happening.

Seeing as AirTrain uses (rents?) existing rolling stock, perhaps they should raise their fees ;)

Simple - the dates between the event actually happening and the media reporting on it are not necessarily the same.

The "source" at Translink may not have said anything until now, and for unknown reasons (they thought it should be stopped and it hasn't, NoNews was fishing for stories...). Whether it was subject to government confidentiality and clearance... well, we all know the media hardly cares about that (unless it's one of those USA style PATRIOT Act gag orders, which result in almost instantaneous imprisonment).

The fact is that the info is out there now. Interestingly, I know people read news and what not, but I wonder what impact this kind of news really has? (If anything, it probably encourages people to do the same kind of scam to suck out the system until they wise up on how to deal with it - it can likely be argued that it's actually not fare evasion (even though to a degree it is) according to the rules of go card...)

If the government (Translink, Queensland Rail) had the power to do that, then they should just dissolve Airtrain and take ownership back (rather than wait ~90 years or whatever). Because I assume it's all locked up in contracts.

The AirTrain really needs to have actual gates at the airport stations - many times there is no one there to check the ticket. Why don't they have gates that can read your ticket? Seemed like a stupid design to me.

That's a shame, otherwise the deserve to have to pay them no matter what, as they facilitated them ripping off their (translink, QR) customers.

So what is this the cheapest way for me to get to the Int'l terminal from Fortitude Valley? I need to go out there and get my girlfriend next week. I have access to concession card with my student ID. I'm sad to hear the $5 fine trick was fixed.

Is there a free shuttle that goes from the DFO to the Airport? What's eagle Junction?

Yes. Airport village shuttle bus. More details on www.bne.com.au

From airport village, there are translink busses that go to toombul and surrounds, there is also one that goes out to carindale iirc.

There is a train station at toombul (eagle junction is another one).

Use the translink website to plan aa journey to the airport village.

The deposit is going up to $10 for adult cards on the 6th of May. So if you wanted to do so you could still use the rort next week. The deposit is being kept at $5 for concession cards so even after that you could still use it.

As others have indicated there is a free shuttle bus from airport village/DFO to the airport terminals. But do note it stops at 6pm. Also it wouldn't get you there in time for some of the earliest flights.

Thank you. I'll be leaving from Herston and put "DFO Brisbane" in as my destination, since Airport Village was not an option. Cheers.

I'd post a link to the schedule for the bus times if I could, but alas I am a new member :p

Can anyone guess a taxi rate from the Airport to Herston/Kelvin Grove?

Black and White Cabs estimate $40 on their "estimate a fare" page, I would have picked it being a bit higher - but I presume the use of the ICB would save a few $

I had a $65 fare late last year from the Hilton - 4am and I wasn't paying attention until I saw us going past Lang Park:mad:

But for the detour it probably would have been around $55.
