Hi Guys

Just wondering if anyone else uses brass collar stiffeners for their formal shirts and have any experience with WTMDs? My shirts haven't been looking sharp enoough recently so I have gone back to using the collar stiffeners supplied with the shirts. As I got to the airport today I wondered if they would set off the WTMD so I removed them.

I was just wondering whether there was any point removing them. They probably has less metal than some of my cufflinks and wedding band.

Any thougths?

I know some WTMDs are more sensitive than others so this would be SYD and MEL DOM airports primarily.

I dont recall using them when I was doing any flying previously.

I hate to be the person that beeps - I am normally the glowerer rather than the gloweree...

The detectors work on the total metal content versus a threshold, for each person that will differ given what they wear.

They have metal ones? Seriously?

I would have thought metal, even brass, would still run a risk of corrosion or oxidisation enough to stuff your shirt.

Brass is non ferrous though, so less likely to set off the detector (it still will, but you need a larger amount than steel).

Gives a new meaning to "posh silver", hehe. Maybe they should make them from gold. Maybe for really expensive shirts they do. Gold is a bit soft though.

Well that was interesting. Some time ago I was pinged for walking too quickly through the WTMD so now I go slowly. Today I was a little too slow and got pinged. A slightly more sprite,y walk through and no ping. Didn't stop the explosives check though...

Once they were made of bone, but now they can be anything, even carbon fibre it seems.
