Virgin Blue has launched an appeal against a ruling that it discriminated against eight former Ansett flight attendants because they were not young and attractive enough.

The flight attendants, who were aged between 35 and 55 at the time, applied for jobs with Virgin Blue following the collapse of Ansett, but failed to get past the first round of interviews.

On a similar topic, can anyone confirm the rumour that UA has a flight attendant in her eighties?

Was this thread started in the playground or moved there?

Hi John. I started the thread in the playground because I felt it was quite frivolous. :D

I had a feeling that the thought police may have deemed it inappropriate for the general discussion area.:)

Getting back on topic I don't remember the last time I was on a flight and seeing a FA under 30 years of age, most seem to be in their 40's and 50's. I know you guys have been saying that DJ hires yound FA's but certainly have not seen any younger FA's in any of the mainline airlines I have flown.

I have heard that rumour too, but having flown return UA in F from SYD to SFO four times over the past 18 months I don't think any of the FA's in F are younger than 55. I think it is a seniority thing and you have to have been employed with UA for over 40 years before you get to work in F. I took the kids to Disneyland recently and the age of the FA's in Y showed they were very experienced also.

The DJ crews are definitely young. But they're also fun. :D

And they're not sexist in this regard - the guys are young too.

along with my earlier post ... i really think it would be better if we had bikini girls who can give you a quick shoulder massage as flight attendants ....

actually, maybe only in business ... yes, that's it, only in business.

Just can't seem to make that first step onto a DJ flight. It would be nice to be on a flight and have service with a smile instead of the tired old looks I get on QF flights.

As all my flying is self funded I am trying hard to maintain status or even make platinum so don't want to stray onto DJ flights. Maybe soon.

Keep an eye out on the DJ website. You can find quite low fares from time-to-time, such as $59 SYD-MEL. etc.

In fact right now is "Happy Hour" on the website (12 noon to 1pm) and they have a bunch of specials on offer:
Rockhampton ↔ Brisbane $49
Brisbane ↔ Whitsunday Coast $49
Brisbane ↔ Hamilton Island $59
Mackay ↔ Brisbane $59
Launceston ↔ Sydney $65
Adelaide ↔ Canberra $79

All fares include taxes and charges. If you want to try out DJ and compare service, fly with them one way and come back on the Red Rat, and collect a few SC's. :)

Some of these look very good.

SYD-MEL-LST is $184 on QF, using the above specials 3 return trips on DJ is the same as 1 return trip on QF.

Somewhat similar to that Hooters Air concept, I guess (but Hooters Air concept was sans shoulder rub and wasn't quite a bikini - a tight T-shirt). :D:D
