I am sad to report that Boyd "The Captain" Munro passed away last Saturday 13 March 2021.

I had the pleasure of enjoying a first class flight on a Singapore Airlines flight from Sydney to Singapore on a 380 flight in October 2017. It was the first and only time that I had met Boyd. Our flight was the midday flight and a friend and myself had checked in around 7.45am so we could enjoy the first lounge before the flight. We had seats near the window overlooking the runway and Boyd arrived with his two sons not long after. You could see that he was a favourite of the staff with the attention he received.

We enjoyed many bottles of Verve (it was better than the standard Verve but can not recall the type). Boyd was wearing a blazer and white shirt with markings with features like an airline Captain.

We continued our drinking and conversation with Boyd on the flight and Boyd told us many stories of his flying first class with Singapore Airlines over many years.

Upon arrival in Singapore at Boyd's suggestion we all went to The Private Room for an hour so. Singapore was the destination for Boyd and us with his sons flying onto Europe. I will raise a glass tonight in memory of Boyd tonight.

Boyd had his airline "Munro Airways" in which he had a uniform, it had him through customers faster was his reasoning.

He used to fly Singapore Air and his classic was he would turn up with a carton of Coopers beer at check in as hand luggage which would be duly put on board for him. The airline committed to have Coopers for him if they had 24 hours warning but because he booked late they never had it so he took his own.

There are many stories, winning air races, flying under the Habour Bridge, needing to land at military bases because of fuel. He was a character and I enjoyed his company for a beer at his Sydney residence or a train ride of which we did many.

My last beer with him was February 2021.
