Amaroo .. we spent a couple of days in Boston and I remember naught.. mea culpa
It was near the end of a longish trek and everything becomes kinda kaleidoscopic
If you are in the area though , Newport is an interesting place.
I allowed almost no time but we could have spent a couple of days.
In the same neck of timber , we also drove to the top of Mt. Washington… well worth the effort as I recall

When I was in Boston, I think 2016, I seem to recall that public transport from the airport into the CBD on the subway was free. Not free on the reverse direction though.

If you are there in Baseball season and like your sports then I recommend a visit to Fenway Park. If you can't get tickets, then Bleacher Bar is a great experience. It is outside the ground (underneath the bleachers) and there is a massive window that looks out onto the field. It was a great spot to watch the game.

Have checked the dates, we can secure tickets at Fenway to see them play the Orioles. Would this be a good game or a waste of time.... how long does a game go for?

The best tickets would be behind the pitcher - again NFI if thats good or not.

I would say go for it. Boston are the reigning champs but have struggled this year. The Orioles aren't great but the thing with a 162 game season is that any team can perform on the day. The absolute worst teams will win 1 in 3 games.

I actually prefer to sit behind the pitcher, you are a long way away, but it is no different to being at a cricket match.

If you are into sports and history then I would definitely go.

We spent 4 nights there in Apr 2017. We stayed in the hilton chain, Back Bay Area (not downtown) it was walking distance to downtown. We picked it as it was close to Fenway park, the fine arts museum, close to home straight of the marathon, in a brown stone area and handy to everything. It was an easy day walk through the gardens, up to Paul Revere house, old north church and the ship yards then a ferry back to the aquarium area and a cab back to the hotel. Another day was was a walk to to tea party museum, children’s museum, china town for lunch. Sounds like a lot of walking but with a 9yr old in tow it was not that difficult. If you use trains, these are also easy to use, we caught a couple.

Finally, unless the laws have changed just be aware if booking accomodation with lounges MA laws do not allow “happy hours” so if you stay in hotel that has a licensed bar, it is unlikely (based on our experience) that the hotel lounge will provide complementary alcohol.

I've thrown the dice and went with Boston Common location.

When I went to a ball game I sat behind first base. I found it a good place to see the batter's swing and the action at first base.

It can go for several hours and there is lots happening between innings. The seventh inning stretch is where the crowd sings along to 'take me out to the ball game'.

I got there early and had a walk around the ground including the bleachers.

I found it a great experience. Fenway Park is the oldest major league baseball ground so there is a lot of history there.

You may want to explore the possibility of a tour:

Thanks for the hints from this tread. I am only recently back from visiting Boston. Great place to visit.

I did a few walking tours, the guide sent through an email after the tours with hints and tips, if anyone is keen I can post of the list

cheers

I'd be keen to have a look. Might be better to take photos and post them here on the thread so everyone can view?
