You will see them being put into domestic service first I suspect.

My crazy dream when I saw 772 on the NIGS was for a "private" immigration/customs facility upstairs in the new T2 extension at SYD, so that VA long haul international could operate out of T2. Completely stupid idea (and although it might possibly work for outbound pax, but it would be all but impossible to manage inbound customs), but the marketing power of the only airline to have a single-terminal international-to-domestic transfer experience at SYD would be enormous.

Sydney Airport proposed this as a concept back in Dec 2011.

However, I think there was a quiet withdrawal of the concept once some high level planning was done. It may still be on the long term cards.

EDIT: Hmmm... still current focus in August 2012... http://www.sydney.org.au/media/uplo...tation_Committee for Sydney_8 August 2012.pdf

^ Good thing the document is not on the internet!

That plan was indeed withdrawn just after that document was produced:
Sydney Airport scraps plans for alliance-based mega-terminals

That plan was for a pretty comprehensive rebuild of how the entire terminal operates, I was thinking of a very small facility.

I mean regularly scheduled services obviously, not promotional stunts.

Glad you qualified your post, I was not talking regular schedules but infrequent capacity solution flights, as that flight proved you need a domestic aerobridge to make it work, hardly a promotional stunt.

If the entire VA pier was made 2 story it may be feasible.
However it would not fit DL,SIA,ANZ,EY & HL operations. Another pier could be built over the REX remote bays, but now I'm just getting ahead if myself.
