It would be interesting to see how QF and VA would win over travel contracts without lounge access being allowed. That said, there's probably a lot of meetings that happen in the CL at least An intriguing thought.

I think that companies would be looking at the overall cost of their travel contracts in making their flight buying decision. In making this decision they would take account of the views of their travelling employees but their views would not be the make or break element.
If there was no lounge access offered then companies would know that other costs would increase e.g. Increased staff turnover costs if employees don't like the onerous travel requirements with no lounge access. So having no lounge access could result in increased overall costs for the company, even though the actual flight cost is lower.
Companies would include these sorts of things in their analysis comparing the airline offers.

Having said that, after some pleb in the company has done all this analysis and recommended to use VA, when the contract goes to the CEO for signing and he says "but I love seeing all my mates in the CL I am not cough*g signing this" what do you do?
You sign with QF!
Maybe one day he may or may not be accountable for this decision.

Lounge access not being valued, and instead purely being seen as a perk. Anybody who negotiates not to have access are just jealous and take a narrow interpretation of rules, regulations, etc. re entitlements, and have little focus on value and outcomes.
Work travel is not necessarily glamorous - especially when living up in the Top End. Leaving Mrs Here2go at home with the kids or vice versa can leave a strain on the relationship for both parties if travelling too regularly, the lounge can help you be productive, or just Skype the kids before they go to bed, and you've got another 5 hours before you get home at OMG am.
