As we know, we often pay over the odds for international flights booked in Australia.

Could someone please advise on whether this holds true for Asian destinations, or is restricted mainly to longer haul destinations such as UK and USA.

Thanks in advance

Oops, posted a bit early.
I should have added that I understand booking through other countries may deliver better prices.

Most flights are cheaper booked with point of origin outside of Australia.

It certainly holds true for Asian destinations for me and I have been doing it for ~7 years now.

We definitely know airfares are much cheaper booked from UK and the USA.

We try to book as much as possible from outside AU but do always just do a double check with local pricing. 90% of the time outside Oz is cheaper.

Thank you very much for your very prompt reply.

I have heard some scary stories about foreign discounters (e-dreams and lastminute come to mind), including that phone queries are billed at premium rates, or they may bill your cc in their foreign currency, or have hidden fees.

I am looking at Kashgar (Ch) in July, and there are a few discounted fares available through a range of offshore e-bookers. Any suggestions please?

Cheers
Bush
