Booking standard ticket while waitlisted for a saver in J?

Hi,
I am a bit of a newbie to SQ, but have just booked 1A1C saver fare BNE-FCO in J and have waitlisted for an extra 1A on the same day, same flight.
There is no more saver availability showing now, so my question is: would it hinder my saver waitlist option if I were to book a standard points fare? (with the intention of cancelling the standard if granted the saver)

Thanks.
