Booking separate PNRs from ADL-> SIN via CGK, luggage issues?

Hi all,

I was planning on booking ADL to SIN in J but wanted to split it to take advantage of Qantas's 30% of sale (ADL->SYD-> CGK on QF and then CGK->SIN on KL on a separate booking).

Arrive in CGK at 18:45 and then leave for SIN at 20:30. If I'm only taking carry on, am I correct in assuming that I don't have to leave the terminal or go through immigration at all? I'll land in terminal 3 and depart from terminal 3.

Also if I were to take luggage, is there any way to get them sent through all the way to SIN, or would I have to go through immigration in CGK and re-check in?

If you're on separate tickets, you'll need to clear immigration etc. in Jakarta and collect your bags, if any.

Also, international transits are not currently permitted in Indonesia and the current 30% off Qantas Classic Reward tickets only applies to Y bookings.

Basically, I don't think this is a good idea or going to work.

Didn't know that international transits are not permitted - can you link me more information on that? I can see it's not allowed in DPS on Qantas's website, but nothing on CGK.

Also the discount only says economy rewards, but it absolutely is applied to business rewards as well.

Interesting that J rewards are also being discounted. There were some comments in the other thread about this applying to NOU, but not other ports.

I stand corrected, it looks like Indonesia has just reopened for international transits in the last week or so. However, if on separate tickets, I don't think you would be able to transit without clearing immigration anyway though.

Can you get the KLM flight on the same ticket as the Qantas flight by booking it as multi-city Classic Reward? You can redeem Qantas points on KLM, if there is availability. If on one ticket all the way through to Singapore, you should be fine.

You can do that, but if you book it as one PNR the discount isn't applied. It's something like 87k points + taxes one one ticket vs 67k on separate ones.

I've transited in CGK (Terminal 2 previously) connecting on SQ to SIN on a separate ticket after flying in on QF and had to ask a ground staff (who disappeared with my passport and boarding pass) before reappearing some time later to allow me to proceed up the escalator to the departures level...

As with any itin with separate tickets/PNR this is frought with all kinds of potential danger quite apart from dealing with a transit, or needing to enter Indonesia etc - you get a delay on QF and it's likely you'll miss KL (unless a delay there of course). Personally I would not leave such a slim margin for this scenario - even with an international transit. That's just me though.
