So ...pondering next year's trips . Yes soooo much fun
With the current deal with Singapore Airlines of Europe to Aust return sales has brought up the idea of using that .
Husband will go to UK Sept 2023 and again Nov 2023 (we hope )
Now is it feasible , legal , ok to do , to buy a trip for Sept going over and Nov return . Then buying a trip from UK back to Australia back to UK in the middle
Hope that makes sense
These are trips he does like to do
Sooo have I confused anyone yet ? Lol

Yes, if your dates work like that. Other times people are over for longer and need one way flights, so needs to be cost effective enough that they don't outweigh the savings.

This is used to take advantage of Europe beginning trip deals ?
Often done for this reason though some have much more complex itineraries
The tricky bits are:
1) Finding an economical one way out to Europe. An award flight is ideal. I have occasionally seen MH do decent revenue one-ways
2) Continuing the chain of flights so that you can continue to benefit from cheaper fares (starting ex-EU rather than ex-AUS). Is relatively straightforward if you have regular trips at fixed times. Otherwise you need to find another one-way at some point

A lot of these sale fares have anywhere from 1 month to 6 month max stays so it may not be as attractive as you think, if you only do 2 trips a year for example.

Yes and the trouble I will have I presume.
For example I’m wanting to come back from Europe some time in November but don’t know exactly when I can head back to Europe and even if I did have some idea it’s likely to be around March/April so might not even be possible

So a flight leaving on Sept 15 and returning Dec 4th May have a problem ?

Take QR for example. A lot of their cheapies are 1 or 2 month max stays, so a nearly 3 month stay in your case means that the cheap fare is not applicable to you. Occasionally you get a good cheap fare that has a 6+ month max stay... but far and few honestly.

Another thing to be mindful of is travel insurance.

Some policies require a *return ticket* to australia to qualify your cover. I wanted to nest tickets once with ANZ and they didn’t like it. They said the policy would be tied to the original outbound and return, not the nested ticket.

Another issue is the time you will be away in nesting tickets, it could be outside the time limits for an annual policy, and could make a single policy expensive to cover the total number of days for the original ticket. (Some CC insurance will cover 180 days away, so might be an option if they accept the nest.)
