Booking EK vs. QF

So I have what I think is probably a rookie question...

I want to fly on the Emirates flight in first between Akl and Mel. Should I book through Qantas as the code share to get my points and status credits? And if I do so, will I be able to select seats on booking?

Any advice gratefully received

Yes, definitely book through Qantas if you want Qantas points & status credits. If you book through Emirates (i.e. with an EK flight number) you'll receive fewer Qantas points and NO status credits.

You'll still be able to select your seat etc. although you may need to do so on the Emirates website (using your Qantas booking reference).

Yes and yes.

if you can wait for the F sales which are fairly frequent ex-NZ

I notice there is a Business Class sale fare currently, but no F. They come around fairly often and you can get it for $899 NZD (or that was last year's sale price)

Booked the same flight through the QF site last Christmas and was able to select seats
