Hi

I wish to fly Emirates SYD-DXB-AMS in very late September next year in Business using QF points.

I have a rellie who is either Platinum (or I think P1) with QF who has kindly offered to assist at the appropriate time with securing the seats and then doing a points transfer. I am only Silver with QFF.

From memory it is 352 days out for online redemption bookings for QF metal, but was wondering if anyone can clarify if it is the same with EK or a different time horizon?

It is definitely a little later with EK. From memory 330 days but I may be slightly off. Do a few dummy booking tests around this timeframe and see. Even though you are silver I'm sure EK seats will show up for you on that route.

FYI Dubai is DXB (not DBX)

Hi

Thanks for feedback. I have corrected DBX to DXB.

From subsequent online research it seems redemptions on EK metal in J are not as difficult as on QF metal, even if one is using QF points :)

Still 11 months out (or thereabouts) for EK is still fine.

.

That's certainly been my experience too. EK has a lot more flights to Europe and it is one of the great benefits of the QF-EK agreement, for those happy to fly to or through Dubai.

I have found there's generally good availability with EK using QFF, I've been searching availability to get to NYC and being a NB I'm thinking's EK & QR through the Middle East as there seems to be pretty decent availability most of the time.

Theres a lot more availability on EK later in the piece.

For example heres Sept this year (since you're not going to Sept 18) based on 2 PAX (as you didn't say if by yourself or with company)

The earlier you book the easier it is to get exact destination but re-positioning in Australia or flying into Brussels just down the road from AMS or Paris (3 or so hours by train) or Frankfurt or these a couple more becomes a time issue since train trips are cheap the further out you book.

Yea the other way around the world definitely has better availability and do consider re-positioning in Australia to score a seat..... because the flight time Is usually longer for the same spend. 5 or 6 extra first-class hours thrown in for free!

Don't think we'll have the points accrued to get F awards, but I'm sure an extra 5 hours in J ain't too bad. Plus, I wouldn't mind trying the Doha or Dubai lounges.
