Booked a simple HBA/MEL same-day return recently, with flexi return leg so cud likely get an easy points upgrade.

No upgrades were avail upto day before, so I just checked in online, but didn't proceed past the text message to actually load up BP's on my phone...

Next I phoned VFF to find that actually, yes, a few biz seats were now avail so we went ahead with the points upgrade.

Surprise surprise - next morning at HBA airport I cud not load up BPs, so VA desk printed them out. Lo and behold: my selected seat 3A gone, to replaced by hated 3B and too late/flight too busy to change and thus sweaty armpits stuck in the middle

So the warning is that if you muck around with your booking after you are online checked in, then apparently you risk losing whatever seat allocation you might hv had..

I done get it.. If you points upgraded wouldn't you have been allocated row 2 in the front cabin.

Problem was not getting the return upgrade, but the effect that changing my booking after online checkin had on my seat allocation on outward leg ..

so be careful mucking around with yr booking AFTER you hv checked in online and done seat allocation
