Just booked return flights for family 3 of them to fly to QLD for Christmas. Do I get the points as they are not in any program.

Thanks In Advance

No. You need to enroll them in velocity. By default they will then get the points, however if you set up family pooling and direct them to your account you can get both points and status credits

Hence why then when I booked it asked for my membership number and then it asked if I was flying.

I must admit I thought if I was booking and paying then I should get the benefit of the points???

You didn't think it was going to be that easy

Sign up your kids then attach their numbers in the booking. Finally go back into their accounts and family pool them to you (both points and SC's).

Done. I've done the same for my wife+2 kids for BNE/CBR/BNE. pity I couldn't squeeze the M-i-L into the pooling as well
