Booking an award flight with AA using QF points

Thank you for your help with this.

I wish to use QF points to book an AA J flight from DFW to LIM. How soon before the flight can I book these. I wish to fly January 2018. I understand I have to ring QF for this.

You should be able to book it online. And IIRC AA load seats 330 days from departure.

i have recently asked on this forum about booking AA awards for international flights from the US to South America and return and was advised they had to be done by phone. So am a bit confused. I am wanting to book DFW to LIM. And BUE to DFW.

I already have QF award flight BNE to DFW.

Just go to AA.com and select "Book with miles" or "Redeem Miles" to do your initial search to find seats, then go to Qantas.com and use the multi-city tool with classic rewards selected to look for them.

I had a quick look at the DFW-LIM route and I only found 1 day out of the next 12 months that they have J award availability. You should probably adjust your expectations accordingly.

By the way, if you can get both AA and LA in the booking, it become a "oneworld Classic award".

If that can be combined with your BNE-DFW booking it may result in a significant saving in points, even with change costs.

How many days ahead are LA award flights loaded?

I had a quick look at the DFW-LIM route and I only found 1 day out of the next 12 months that they have J award availability. You should probably adjust your expectations accordingly.

While this may be true, keep in mind that there are other routings available, including with travel on LATAM (which can't be found on the QF website). I would suggest that a routing like DFW-MIA-LIM would yield pretty good results.

LATAM flights operated by LAN (LA flight number) are loaded 330 days in advance. For TAM-operated flights (JJ flight number) it seems to be 328 days.
