Hi there,

I'm new to the forum, so hello to everyone and thanks in advance for any suggestions members may have.

I recently booked a J class seat (I class booking) on QF63 (SYD-JNB) through my travel agent. When I look at my booking on the Qantas website and click on that particular flight, I see both a J booking and a Y booking. The J booking has me marked for the seats I selected and has no seat selected for the Y booking.

Does anyone know if this is common? I'm unsure if its a stuff up from the travel agent's end (that they booked two seats and only charged me for one?), is just a random and meaningless quirk or (hopefully not) a 'back-up' seat in case I was to be bumped down or something?! I've just not seen this before.

Either way, I'm not too fussed as I have a booking for the seats I wanted and have paid what I expected, so don't really mind so long as I end up in them! Any thoughts?

Thanks everyone, happy flying!

Chris

Did you get any quotes from any other travel agents prior to making the J class booking?

One large travel agent chain generally does a booking (even without your knowledge) when you ask for a fare quote then often forgets to cancel the reservation if you don't go ahead with that booking. This can lead to problems if you are holding two seats under the same name for the same flight as the airline will send messages off to both agents asking them to cancel the duplicate booking.

Were you ever talking about travelling in economy with the agent you booked with? If it's showing up in the 'your bookings' section of the QF website then your QF ff number must be in the pnr so you would have had to provide your ffn to the travel consultant when you got the quote/did the booking.

Hey Oz,

I only went through one agent (I've got a mate who works there so he sorts me out) so unless he booked an extra Y class, I can't understand it. I was initially looking at Y+ anyway, so doubt he would've booked an extra Y. Will call him to check it out though.

It is showing in the 'your bookings' which is what caused me to be a bit confused. Might just call Qantas tomorrow too.

Cheers,

Chris

I'd call your TA friend first to see if he's got an explanation. I would only call the airline if your mate can't shed any light on the subject.
