Morning All,

I booked a trip from LAS - YVR with LAX stopover through AA Australia as my Canadian CCs havent arrived yet.

I searched for flights using the business or higher option.
I selected my flights (LAS-LAX is on AA metal, and LAX-YVR on AS metal but AA flight number). I clicked on the details page and it all said first class, etc. When I saw my fare class it said FA2AA, but when my e-ticket confirmation came through in email, it said booking class Y for both seats...so I am assuming I will only get full economy status credits from QFF.
Thought maybe it was just a mistake and tried selecting my seats to which only economy I can pick from.

I jumped on the AA site and tried the same thing with Canada as my home (which it is now) and get exact same prices and classes as above.
Kept booking through the steps until I reach payment steps then I stopped. I could pick my F seats on the LAS-LAX flight but not LAX-YVR (probably due to it not being an AA metal yet) and they will get assigned later?

Am at a loss to what I should do...cancel my ticket, or ask them to put me in the class I had booked.
I have booked on a seperate ticket a discount economy from YVR-LAS which I can keep as I dont need that leg really to help my SC earn.

Cheers,
Damien

FA2AA is a fully refundable class (double check your ticket) so I would refund.

Then I would rebook using the US site (you can still use your Australian CC for the booking).

Search this site for "El Segundo".

Thanks for the advice DFCatch, I was looking at that 'method' and was tossing up between that or my canadian visa if comes through soon as dont want to miss out on the fares.
Yep, it is a fully-refundable ticket and had already lodged a refund request through the website.

Do you happen to know the technicals behind why it happens like that??

I'll email you also this weekend...work has been hectic since arriving. Perusing this forum is my 'time-out' for now haha!

I have no idea as to why.

But I stopped even "looking" at the Australian site quite some time ago.

I find the US site to be very reliable with all of my bookings - never a problem, easy to hold tickets, easy to pay (even with Aussie CC).

There is a problem with AA at times-I have an upcoming Aaward in J but a couple of sectors on the E ticket sat economy-but the seats allocated are J.
Yours sounds a little different though with only Y seat selection.

I had an identical problem earlier this year where the AS segments were booked into economy on a First class ticket.

A call to AA fixed everything in 5 minutes.

Thanks for all the advice guys...I had already submitted my refund request...but needs to be manually inspected and processed so I will see what they say. I had made a note in the comments so they make email me back with the option to fix it.
I probably shouldve called Australia, but didnt want to play phone-tag or be on hold for ages since am calling from overseas.
...I'll get used to all this soon and my questions will be less finicky!!

Very strange, but may have to do with the booking engine reading the booking class one way but the host system (SABRE) doing something else.

As long as you are fixed up all that maters

I ended up calling the Aus Call Centre and the lady there was great.
Re-ticketted both my flights with F and all smooth sailing now.

Promised my ticket isnt going to be cancelled as I had a refund request in and is taken care of. Still dubious...so watching that one closely.
Call Centre lady I think was French, so had a little trouble with language barrier, but all sorted out in under 15min.
