Booked Economy Flex but fare class is discount economy - Velocity status credits lower than expected

Hi All,

I hope someone can guide me or educate me as to what I did wrong.

I booked an Economy Flex ticket via the Air Canada website. It was an international journey, LAX - YVR - BNE one-way ticket.

On the website, I picked the Economy Flex option and in the confirmation e-mail, it says "Economy - Flex". But the actual fare class is G, which is a discount economy fare class.

I only paid extra for the flex ticket to get higher status credits on Velocity, but they've obviously gone off the fare code which is a lower reward schedule.

Does anyone have any idea how to get this corrected, or did I do something wrong?

You made a perfectly valid assumption...but I've seen this on AC before...despite the titles for the fares they're all booking into the same class (as described in the article). The clue, maybe, is the very small price difference between basic, standard and flex. On other airlines where there is a different fare class for these fare families the price difference is much, much greater. Unfortunately there's nothing to be corrected.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Air Canada offered a 20pc off voucher as a gesture of goodwill. Still not overly happy, and find it extremely sneaky. But par for the course with travel, you tend to learn the 'tricks' of the trade over time and in this case, lesson unfortunately learnt.

Disappointing but good to see your non-rant mature response. For later in the year I had the choice of AC or SQ. I chose SQ. Would love to hear about your flights when you’ve e completed them.
