I'm looking to mitigate the recent Amex announcement and transferring my points to Cathay via an intermediate stop at my US Platinum

Cathay seem to have good redemption availability for our Europe trip next year.

However, I'm looking to pay for one ticket and redeem the other. In a perfect world, we'd pay for my ticket as that will take me to the next Tier in the BA Club.

However, that would require me to use my points to redeem my wife's ticket in the Cathay loyalty programme (she is not a member). Is that possible?

It's been a while since I redeemed Asia Miles for someone else (like, before COVID), but my recollection is that you can, but you have to mark them as a redemption nominee and changes to nominees are throttled over time, similar to KrisFlyer.

Not a helpful response, but I saw this thread title and was wondering what bizarre redemptions Asia Miles offered that you could book a wife :)
