Book now pay later - changes allowed?

If I make a booking and choose book now pay later, is it allowed to make changes to the itinerary? E.g. If I book MEL-LHR-FRA return then decide I want to either change dates or go to MUC instead can i make these changes online myself or by phone before I have paid? Or does it need to be cancelled and redone? Thanks.

I imagine it depends totally on the fare type rather than the payment method/agreement.
