Qantas has announced a Status Extension offer for Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One members in Australia and New Zealand with status end dates between 31 March 2021 and 31 December 2021. All you need to do to take advantage is to book a Qantas-operated flight between now and your current expiry date in 2021 to have your status extended for a further 12 months — taking your current status into 2022.

Additionally, Qantas also announced Status Credit Rollover to give you a head start to earn status thru 2023 (thanks, sudoer for tracking this down on the Qantas website): "If you’re eligible, Qantas will rollover eligible Status Credits earned in the Membership Year ending between 31 March 2021 and 31 December 2021 up to a cap of at least 40% of the Status Credits required to retain your tier. This rollover will apply for Membership Years starting between 1 April 2021 and 1 January 2022."

Details around what status credits are eligible for Status Credit Rollover and a complete Q&A on the announcements are located here:

FREQUENT FLYER EXTENSION
Qantas has today announced an offer to extend the Frequent Flyer status of hundreds of thousands of its members for another 12 months.
To qualify for the extension – and retain the various benefits that come with each membership tier – members facing expiry in 2021 simply need to book a Qantas-operated flight between now and their current tier expiry date for travel until the end of 2021.

This follows an automatic 12 month extension that was provided at the start of the pandemic, as travel restrictions prevented members from being able to do the flying necessary to retain their Silver, Gold, Platinum or Platinum One status.

By early December, Qantas Frequent Flyers will have access to 30 of the 35 domestic and regional lounges across the airline’s network.

Great news. Looks like I'll be taking advantage of free award cancellations to cancel and rebook an upcoming trip to Melbourne...

Key points:
  • Australia and New Zealand members only (weird given GK/3K flights are eligible...)
  • March to December membership anniversaries only. Those with status already extended to Jan/Feb 2022 aren't eligible
  • Must make one new booking between 23 November 2020 and member’s current status end date. Travel before 31 December 2021. Bookings made prior to 23 November are explicitly not eligible.
  • Book, pay and have the ticket issued on any Qantas operated flight with a QF flight number, or any Qantas Points earning Jetstar international booking with a JQ flight number including Jetstar flights within New Zealand (JQ), Jetstar Japan (GK) and Jetstar Asia (3K) flights. Jetstar domestic flights within Australia are ineligible.
  • Eligible bookings can be paid with cash, Qantas TravelPass, Qantas Flight Credit, or with Qantas Points (via a Classic Flight Reward or Points Plus Pay).
  • If booking meets requirements but Qantas cancels the flight you’ve booked, status will be extended (some good opportunities here for speculative route cancellations)
  • Status extension won't be 'activated' until the weeks leading up to your anniversary date
  • Rollover at least 40% of SC earned in 2020-2021 towards 2022 retain goals. Does NOT include StatusKeeper.

Status Credits1,800 (50%)500 (41.66%)250 (41.66%)100 (40%)

  • Status credits earned through flying or with our partners on the ground will count towards the rollover. Status Credits provided by Qantas as a bonus, support or gift will not count towards the rollover.
  • Points Club Plus 100 SC rollover for next year is not counted to 40% cap. Unsure if SCs rolled into this year (for members who qualified for Points Club Plus on launch and again the following year) will come across. They're not 'Bonus, Support or Gift' SCs, so I think they should

Great...so booking one Qf flight will keep me platinum til October 2022 :)

I can save my travel pass with attached DSC until its expiry in December 2022...

Happy with the rollover. Would love to get a confirmation that this year granted PointsPlusClub100sc rollover count towards the 40% rollover.

Also, the title of the thread deserve an update :)

Thanks for the idea @sudoer! I've just cancelled and rebooked a QF reward booking while there are still seats left...

Do we still get the status booster? My anniversary is 30 November

Good question - the FAQ doesn't directly address it, but Qantas does mention the Status Boost still exists for Jan/Feb anniversaries.

My status end date is 31 January 2022 or 28 February 2022, am I eligible for the status extension?
No. Only members with a status end date between 31 March 2021 and 31 December 2021 (inclusive) are eligible for the status extension. To support your ability to retain your status in 2022, you will still be gifted 50% of your annual Status Credits needed to keep your status as part of the Status Credit Boost as previously announced.

I expect you will still receive the boost, even if only for the bump in your LTSC count. Removing the boost for Nov/Dec anniversaries would piss anyone off who has pre-booked travel in 2021 with the intention of using it to move up a tier.

So just going to put this out there since I am sure it will come up. If you book one flight (and that can be one way) do you still need 4~? I am assuming not.

It is an interesting strategy. I am surprised it is only ONE booking required rather than say 2 or 4 or something. That's so super generous it's almost ridiculous - specially for higher status levels like WP and P1. Not complaining but I wonder if this is going to shoot themselves in the foot a little bit.

It is a new strategy for sure and I like the aspects - flight cancelled status extension for one (which seems reasonable given how volatile the whole situation is and only a few would game this for "free" status extension imo) and the rollover SC's too.

So, while it is a bit complicated I do think it goes a long way to accepting the situation for members and doing what it takes to keep the business.. even if it is one flight!
