Book a CR flight in my future surname

Hey all!

I'd like to book a CR flight for May-June 2026 in my future surname, but I do have a slight issue.

I recently got married to my wife, and have taken her surname. At this stage I have not changed my surname as I have an existing CR itinerary in August. I planned on changing my passport, QFF account, etc for the August itinerary but unfortunately as it contains multiple airlines QF cannot re ticket my itinerary in my new surname.

For the sake of simplicity I've opted to keep my current surname and will change it to my future surname after our return in Sept.

My issue is the CR flights I'd like to book for May-June 2026 are coming up with availability in the next few weeks. If I wait to September to change my surname the availability will be long gone.

Would it be okay to book my next CR flight in my new surname? I can book it without my QF number at this stage.
Then later on when I update my passport, QFF surname, etc I should then be able to add my QF number?

Would love to hear peoples thoughts and experiences on this topic.

Thanks!

Would it still be possible to keep and retain your maiden surname legally but just "unofficially" go by your married surname?

It's a lot of work going through to change your surname - not just passports but driver's licences, utility bills, bank accounts, credit cards and all other companies in which you're a customer etc?

Congratulations - but I think it's best to just keep things simple and don't make things complicated.

I would imagine what is most important is that the flights are booked in the same name as the passport you'll use at the time of your trip. I've had issues with tickets just because of accidentally forgetting to include my middle name when I have a middle name in my passport. I'd imagine a surname would be even more complicated.

I presume you'll have the passport with your new surname by then. If so then, short answer: Yes.

Congratulations @RPC.

I’m worried for you about how you’d book a CR without using your FF number. You’d need to use your FF number to access the CR availability, and to access points to pay for it.

I think @markis10’s suggestion to book for a family member ie yourself under your new name is a good idea.

This same concern arose when my daughter and her wife changed their names on marriage - it was over 2 years before they bothered to change their passports and FF details. Literally one of the last things they did.
