Bonza Airline Discussion

A Current Affair just ran what looks like a near launch segment. Cabins and pricing also shown. Cabins looked pretty good and all set to go. Looks all very organised and well set up.

Launch route is MCY-PPP, $59

Far out I haven't seen any part of ACA in years but just skipping through on 9now was painful.

The first story was about someone delayed on a Virgin flight (almost seems like a coincidence given the Bonza promotion at the end), the Medibank drama, the block auction saga and then finally the Bonza story.

This is the episode link for anyone interested seeing the Bonza stuff - skip directly to 19mins 10secs.

Interestingly the purple seats look a little like the VA ones but notably there appear to be USB ports in every seat with power sockets between seats plus a QR code on the seat back indicating there may be some form of onboard wifi (either using the dishes installed) or a local network to order stuff/view content.

Also intresting is the exit signs overhead and near the doors are in Polish (given these aircraft were meant for LOT).

Interesting they didn’t keep the LOT seats. The seats are Recaro. They are the exact same as the Jetstar NEO seats, however they have not opted for the device holder. They did opt for a headrest vs Jetstar who did not.

However the USB is a welcome addition low cost or not. Strange they went with a power supply also. Would be good if Virgin gave each seat both USB and power.

For what it’s worth… I don’t think they were ever delivered so probably didn’t have a chance to get played with!

Yes, but isn't that exactly what Bonza are targeting? If it wasn't niche, Jetstar, Virgin and/or QF/QFLink would already be flying it.

If, and it’s a big if, any of their routes show any promise, you can guarantee one of the majors will be all over it like a rash.

Depends on the cost base and availablity of aircraft and crew and their relative profitability. Majors almost certainly have more profitable markets to assign their aircraft to. Whereas if Bonza entered those more profitable markets, they would be bled dry by the market power of JQ and VA.

It will be no doubt difficult for them, and I am sure their grand plans will evolve as some routes are dropped altogether and others see slight tweaks (up or down) in frequency). Or they go the way of Tiger ....

Found this. Like the look of the menu, better vs the stock standard pringles and coke. Great to see some innovation also, I do like the Virgin America ordering from the seat concept.

Bonza said it will do away with onboard catering trolleys and instead its cabin crew will be assigned seat rows to look after during each flight. Customers will order and pay for items on the Fly Bonza app and have them delivered to their seats.

Interesting. Well away from mainstream brands.

The whole app only thing is copied from some of the other 777 airlines and is seemingly their to add lots of commission's on booking.

Will be interesting to see how this works at some of their smaller Aus destinations, where you are dealing with businesses that may not have online bookings.

How much demand is there between MCY and PPP? Flying between two resort type destinations in their own right.

I'm guessing they're seeing MCY in two ways - for the southern routes (MEL, ABX, MQL, NTL, TMW, AVV) as a resort type destination, but for the intra-state routes, moreso a city with almost 400,000 people, as a source of passengers.

Also Bellarine Peninsula adds a whole lot more. Just like Mornington counts as part of Melbourne.

Depends what you count.
