Was that part of the business flyer promo? I didn’t book as part of that. I just had a bunch of flights pre-booked during the promo period that applied because they made it retrospective

Does cancelling a platinum upgrade return the seat to the rewards inventory? Have a few flex trip that I can rebook but don’t want to rock the boat if that loses me the upgrade.

I think there's a lot of confusion about the retrospective part of this promotion.

Oh cough. They had to be booked after Jan 12? I just thought it was any flights taken during that period counted? I booked them in October last year…

Yes, they had to be booked and flown 12 Jan - 31 Mar.

The retrospective part was what was the business flyer promo became open to everyone at some point in February and included bookings from 12 Jan onwards.

If you're talking about the four platinum upgrades per year, then I believe it does (or, at least, that's what they've told me).

I would suggest making a complaint to the ACCC - it's specifically prohibited to have fine print that is different to the main ad (False or misleading claims). It probably won't change anything re getting the credits but hopefully will mean they get a slap for the misleading advertising and don't do it again.

This is a terrible suggestion. The flights were booked before the promo and it's expansion existed and @duanemiller simply misunderstood its application. No-one did anything misleading.

Considering how many people seem to have misunderstood the promo, it's pretty clear the main advertisement was worded in a misleading way, which is prohibited by ACL. But if you're right, then the ACCC will simply close the case and at worst @duanemiller has wasted less than 5 minutes of their life making the report.

For anyone to understand your rationale for going to the ACCC, you'll need to elaborate as to how, why and/or where you think the promo was misleading. You may as well do it here to save @duanemiller the trouble. I think the T&Cs are pretty straight forward and clear as per the title of this thread. Otherwise, don't go wasting the ACCCs time or suggest it for others.

So I've just had an unpleasant hour on the phone to Velocity. I flew 7 times during the promotion period but each of those 7 flights was booked before Jan 12, so I didn't receive any bonus SCs.

I called Velocity and pointed out that the "big print" of the promotion stated that the flights needed to be "taken between 12 January 2026 and 31 March 2026" -- it didn't say "booked and taken"; it just said "taken". I pointed out that even if the fine print contradicts the "big print", the offer itself was very clear: it just said the flights needed to be "taken", not "booked and taken" or "ticketed and taken".

I got escalated to a Supervisor who told me that she was also from the Complaints department. Same thing. The T&Cs outline what an "eligible flight" is, and they state that eligible flights needed to be "ticketed and taken" between 12 January and and 31 March.

So I took 7 flights, activated the offer ... 0 bonus SCs.

If @bambi00 is right, then maybe there are grounds here to take this to the ACCC. The offer clearly stated that the flights needed to be "taken" between the two dates, not "booked and taken" or "ticketed and taken". I think a case can be made that the T&Cs contradict this and that on that ground the offer is misleading. On the other hand I don't think the outcome would be clear.

And I need about another 50 SC's to retain Platinum this year.

One thing's for sure: I'm fuming with Virgin right now.

On the other hand, if enough people call Velocity, ask to be escalated to a supervisor, use the same argument about the misleading contradiction between the offer itself and its T&Cs, and express their displeasure ... that might just lead to a "critical mass" of complaints that causes them to reconsider.

It's probably a very long shot, but this sort of thing has been known to work in the past.
