Bonus Complimentary Fare Upgrades EXPIRE TODAY!

I was just looking through the terms and conditions and happened to notice that the Bonus Complimentary Fare Upgrades expire today so thought I would post a reminder for those of you who may still have left.

Bonus Complimentary Fare Upgrades will expire 12 months after issuance if not redeemed by making a booking in accordance with clause 21.2.2 before 15 August 2013. The travel dates for Bonus Complimentary Fare Upgrade flights are not required to be within the 12 month validity period.

I did an upgrade last month SYD-ADL (return) and the lady on the Platinum desk was proactive and said that we better use the comp upgrade first before it expires.... Can't complain about that!

Used mine ages ago (I think on a MEL-PER, with the return being a points upgrade), but still have 2 of the standard Plat ones left to use by the end of this month. Time to get cracking! (though I do drop to Gold at that time if no miracles occur).

You have to purchase a flexi fare to use the upgrade, and on the golden triangle routes it's just not worth the extra $. Most of my travel is OOL-SYD where the current saver fare is $79 and the flexi fare is $169.
The extra $90 for a more comfortable seat on a 1 hour flight is not good value and the J food on short flights is worth about $1.50

For flights of more than 2 hours it's a different story and certainly the coast to coast A330 flights are the perfect use of an upgrade.

Knowing the I.T issues, they are probably still sitting in people's accounts that have one left! Obviously they are best used when someone else is paying for the Flexi or the difference between Flexi and saver is not that huge.

What have the IT issues got to do with it. These need to be used by ringing through rather than online and as someone else noted the desk was quite proactive in ensuring they were used ahead of others that expire at a later date.

They show in your account if you have one, so if it was still there today you could probably get away with using it knowing how things like that happen with Virgin.

MY account still shows upgrade credits available.
Terms and Conditions seem to have been updated and there is now now reference to a 'use before' date stated earlier as before 15th August.
I suspect they may have originally scheduled a review date of the scheme.

I'm totally agreeable with Major. If a complementary business upgrade from a OOL-SYD flexi is poor value, imagine what we think of the outright J purchase.

No, have not really been flying VA this year given the sabre issues, catering issues as well as a poor social media response in the last 8 months. I had hoped they would use their work in 2012 as a solid base to grow from, instead I see the bean counters at play and a real stalling of the transformation. Have EY Gold and QF LTG to fall back on, although my future seems to be in upper class for many OS trips
