Got an email from Etihad offering a 50% bonus on travel Vouchers bought between June 10-24th. So buy $1000 get $1500 worth. Valid for 2 years. That seems a good deal, but are they just going to bump fares up? Will it be valid for any fare (I've not flown with them before)? I tend to fly by the cheapest that meets my requirements (Aus to Heathrow) with a good luggage allowance. Last fare I had pre covid was with BA and it had great weight allowances - 20 + 20 + 10 kg.

Just checked. For entry level fares its 30 + 7 + 5kg.

I‘m seriously tempted but know the risks involved. We know airlines are strapped for cash at the moment and Etihad’s financial position has been well documented but do we really think the Abu Dhabi government would let Etihad go under? Also when I check flights for next year there aren’t any ‘deals’ so maybe Etihad are going to ramp up their prices to compensate? Also do we think longer term Etihad are committed to the Australian market especially given the situation with VA. Any thoughts would be appreciated...have until 24th June to decide...🤔

I reckon unless they get into a bidding war all airlines will be keeping fares up to recoup their losses. Buckleys of fares to London not much over $1000. Probably $1500 at least. Thats when things finally open up. Could be 6-12 months before its possible or worthwhile travelling over there (weather being a factor too).

Yes I know I’m probably going to be sitting in the vouchers for at least 12 months. Being from FNQ I don’t fancy a european winter.

but are they just going to bump fares up?

of course they wont do that. Anyway, even if they did you are still better off taking up this offer. If you are planning to fly in the next 2 years the only way you are going to lose is if another airline throws out a better offer.

Airfares will be set at a price in the future according to market forces. One thing is for certain, that there will be a lot of promotions to get people travelling again.
