Check all your flight details, are you going thru China, if you are then you will almost certainly being flying. China Southern (CS). The quality comparison is substantial QF is a lot better than CS. Are you travelling J if so there are others to look at. Try using Booking Buddy and this will run a number of sites for you.
But as to QF prices versus other airlines they are dear. But you have to pay for quality.

The AF fare does combine with a number of airlines ex-Aust. Their codeshare is on the CZ flight, but you don't need to use that. It's just what most online booking systems return.

You can also use QF, SQ and CX between Australia and Asia.

Like others above, I am a fan though of the AY fare for Oneworld earn and price.

Yeah, a few years ago I got a very cheap mixed class fare with AF from MEL to DUB. SQ to SIN in Y on the way out, then AF SIN-CDG-DUB-CDG-SIN all in J, and then QF in Y back to MEL. I'd have no hesitation in doing the same again if the price was right.
 
Last year there was some specials from OOL using Scoot to SIN and AF to CDG. The 1st leg from SYD could be Scoot
