Korean Air has signed a $1.5 billion agreement with Boeing for up to five 747-8 Intercontinental aircraft, marking a key breakthrough in the region for the stretched variant of the 747, which until now had been sold only to Lufthansa.
The memorandum of understanding covers deliveries between 2013 and 2015 and will complement the fleet of five 747-8Fs that Korean also has on order.

Wow. Well done. Never saw that one coming.

Will be good to see the 747-8i in the skies one day.

Excellent, it looks like the B747 still has life in it yet... Whilst it would be nice to see more orders for the B748i varient hopefully this go someway to ensuring the B747i is built. (They have done small runs of planes before, eg the B747-400ER only 6 where ever built, all for QF.)

That said, I really do hope the QF decides to keep going with the B747. It won't be the same airline without them. (Considering at one stage they had a B747 only fleet.)

The A380 is nice, but it's still no 747... I should also point out I'm more excited by the prospect of a new 747 than I am of the 787.

Wow, it's like they havent had a sniff since LH ordered theirs so this ios good for the programme.

I suspect Boeing will eventually break even on the 747-8F/8i program, but it's hardly going to be a huge winner.

Would be nice to see them get to 100 orders for the 8i, but gee, that's a long way off.

That will make KEs longhaul equipment interesting, A330's, 777's, 747-8's, and the a380's, a lot of different spares etc., to carry....................

Cheers Dee

Great news. It would be nice to have some form of the 747 passenger version in the skies for many years to come.
