If early in the year. it may have been selected for hot temp testing. Not too many places in North America where the temp is 40+ this time of the year.

This is a Boeing test flight scheduled visit to ASP and is used to conduct flight testing in extreme temps at an airport with little traffic and a long runway where they also do rejected take off test/brake tests, etc. Is scheduled to be in Alice for 5 or 6 days of testing before departing on 13/01/14 to return to the USA via Cairns and Kona. Scheduled to arrive in Cairns at 1400 and depart at 1700 on 13/01 if any locals are interested.

That's pretty good for ASP. I didn't realise it was staying a number of days - that makes more sense.
