Having a drink with a mate of my dads whose looking to get to Hong Kong in January (14th) for the weekend. Said he contacted FC and they gave him TG for $1500 and when he waited the price shot up (as they do). Hoping someone on AFF can suggest a better deal. Cheapest option is best, doesn't matter how it gets there. He's just trying to be there for Friday lunch through the weekend to Monday or Tuesday.

Answer by text; but I could have sent the answer via twitter; at that time of year getting back into Australia gets expensive.

Cheapest is Brisbane to Hong Kong via Manila, that was via bestflights.com.au
Another option is China Southern via Guangzhou but its still about $2,100.00

Another option is Jetstar and Jetstar Asia via Singapore; does that sound appealing. ;)

I guess you could always fly AirAsia from OOL with connections onto HKG or another carrier onto Hong Kong. Or the other way around, MH to KUL, AK to HKG.

Sam,

Could be way out.....but.......SYD-MFM return is only $1309 on viva macau.

Just putting an idea out there.....:)

Cheapest I can see amongst the majors is Virgin Atlantic (inc Virgin Blue OOL/BNE-SYD return) for $1,760 - although he won't get there until late Fri night. Add another $300 to get there the night before - ex BNE only. No option from OOL for the Thu.

You could do it for around $1100 on Jetstar (BNE-DRW-HKG). Not sure about connections though and if it would get you there in time. Viva Macau is a good option. Seemed to be a tad cheaper out of Melbourne, $781.92 (leaving on Thursday and returning Wednesday). That just depends on whether you can get cheap flights BNE-MEL.

From what I can see, Hong Kong flights on Jetstar only go from Singapore and Perth, however my dad says he knows someone that flew from Cairns. I can’t see any route from Darwin or Cairns, so I’m lost with that.

award redemption........

I doubt he’s ever saved any miles. Besides, he’s not a frequent traveler. Also doubt he spends that much on AMEX, or if he even has one.

Sorry, I meant BNE-DRW-SIN-HKG. BNE-DRW-SIN on one ticket with Jetstar and SIN-HKG on another with Jetstar Asia.
