Looking to fly Brisbane to Japan (probably Osaka) with Jetstar. Then want to get to Sapporo. After that would like to go to Hong Kong and then back to Brisbane or Sydney. Main issue is that the flights from Japan to Hong Kong seem to be very expensive!!. Am I missing something? Appreciate your comments. FBS

Try Cathay, haven't looked at the prices but I'm fairly sure you can do it all through them for piece of mind

That is do BNE/HKG/CTS/HKG/BNE all on CX assuming of course CX fly HKG/CTS. Even still a domestic fare within Japan would be cheaper than a fare ex Japan to HKG.

It might also be worth checking out a return fare on CX ex Japan ie CTS/HKG/BNE/HKG/CTS then use JQ to position to Japan.
