Today I had to claim baggage off a carousel when landing on Qantas. I noticed only three carousels in use and visible. Perhaps there are other others currently not in use due to the airport renovations?
Anyway, I was at carousel 2 for my bags. Very large number of passengers standing around it. When I arrived, I noticed there were two flights ahead of mine (QF1885) to be delivered - reading the tags, the Sydney flight started coming out soon after I arrived).

As I waited, I noticed more flights being assigned to carousel 2 and none to carousel 3 and few to number 1

Carousel three was in use;

Can anyone explain the reasoning why they would be so heavily loading carousel 2 versus 1 and 3?
Of course bags for our flight took forever to come out not least because of the … pedestrian spacing between bags. Have a look.

Remember: there were 2 flights ahead of me being dribbled out like this, hence the very long wait. Industrial ‘go slow’ maybe?
